, I think there has been mgb patients larger than 350, e-mail the Doc and

ask him. Do you want to be Mem or , both names are great. Good luck on

your journey just remember " Success is not a state to arrive at, but rather,

a manner of traveling. On this list will be traveling with love, compassion,

and knowledge!. It will be tough and fun. Someday you will be frustrated

and wan to cry, someday you will, However there will be a moment when your

turn comes and it will be bliss!! don;t give up! You will learn

patients, and hopefully your soul will grow, this list has fueled my soul and

has held my hand when no one in my world could possibly understand the sorrow

of being over weight..if you need anything we will try to help.

On a lighter note the Doc is a crack up, well, in his e-mails anyway..

You can call me Fay, you can call me Ray, you can call me FayRay...Actually

my first name is Memory. Mem is cool.

I had the one of the more humiliating experiences last night. I have 2

little boys 9 and 4. Well my 9 yr. old plans on being the next Troy Aikman.

So we had been at football school. Football is HUGE in Oklahoma! It was too

late for me to cook so I decided to go through KFC. I ordered 4 dinners for

the 4 of us in our family. The little girl in the drive through thought she

had turned off the speaker on her headset and proceeded to talk about how

fat I was and that was I sure that was all I wanted.

My son, 9yr old, got really upset and defended me. He told the girl

that " My mom can lose her weight but you have an ugly heart! " He makes me

proud!

I asked to speak with the manager, of course there was not one on duty. So

I am going back in today to give them the what for!

This is just one of the reasons I want to lose the weight. I don't want my

boys to have to defend mom all the time.

Hi Memory,

I had my MGB Monday and I was afraid I was the biggest patient they

had ever done, but I was wrong. I weigh (or at least I did on

Monday) 350 and probably more; the scale just stops at that number!

The OR team said Dr R has done this surgery on much larger people

with no problems whatsoever.

I know it seems strange that our fears would be that we are too big

to have obesity surgery, but we are so used to the discriminations

pertaining to every other aspect of our lives that this seems no

different. But it is different and it is good! Dr R is such a

compasssionate man and he wants us to be healthy and happy. You and

your family are in my prayers. If you have any questions please e-

mail me; I would love to help!

God Bless,

MGB 5/15/00

I heard *rumor* that he might accept patients up to 400lbs (but hasn't been

proven), but there have been several patients who lost down to 350lbs in

order to have surgery. Fanney, for instance lost I think about 150lbs

before surgery! It would behoove you physically to lose down to that before

surgery, it makes it much easier on you and Dr R.

I am so sorry that you had to go thru that kind of cruel situation. That girl

should have her butt kicked!!!!! I have never understood why or how people

can be so cruel, I grew up with it as a child at times even from my mom and

its devastating and when I became an adult I thought it would change (not !)

it was just done differently. I use to worry my children when they were young

and we were going anywhere that involved them being around their friends or

school mates if they were going to be embarrassed by me and they always said

no, but I worried that I would humiliate them if one of their friends made a

comment to them. You should be proud of you're son for coming to you're

defense, but that ignorant girl had no right to make any comments to put that

child in that position. it just infuriates me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Hey, my BMI was nearly 64. Dr. R did my MGB in mid-December '99. My health

is greatly improved. My weight loss is around 77 pounds at this time.

Continue to investigate Dr. R's MGB for yourself. I'd do it again in a

heartbeat! The reason for the usual concern over weight/size is that the

hospital equipment is not capable of handling weights much over 350 pounds.

Consult with Dr. R; don't let yourself drop this possible option without

talking directly with him by phone or e-mail.

Gloria,

There have been several people who have had the surgery above 400 pounds. I

asked the same question a couple of months ago. I will try to look for the

message the group sent me and e-mail it to you.

Love,

Lara
