Guest guest
I have eczema which appears every November and lasts thru the spring and I have made my skin bleed on many occasions. someone on this list told me about emu oil. I tried it and it does help. I've only been using it a week. I should apply it to my 3 patches several times a day but you know how busy this diet can keep you. I have noticed some improvement and I think it's worth a try. I found it online so you can just do a search on yahoo. I hope this helps. , mom to broderick - asd, scd 3 months. > > Hi everyone. My son is going through another round of die-off...d with sand, lots of gas, threw up, continuous " sucking " , and cannot stop scratching his hands, behind the knees, and feet. Before SCD and actually before GF he was on 2 prescription creams (one for after the skin broke and bled) twice a day with constant moisturizing and could not be in a room with a carpet without digging his hands in. When walking on pavement he would often drop down and scratch is hands in and get them all bloody. This has been going on for 2 years. With SCD we have been off the prescription creams and I would like to keep it that way since one as aluminum starch and actually we have run out. With die-off he is up all night digging at his hands. They are scab-y all over. Does anyone have a moisturizer/salve or anything I can do to help his skin? I tried the homeopathic cream Florasone. Guest guest
Go to the health food store and get a bottle of evening primrose oil, and break the capsules and put the oil directly on his skin. It's also fine to give it to him orally, as it is an amazing anti-inflammatory. Hopefully, you'll be as amazed at the results as I was, Marilyn leaky gut, SCD 9 weeks eczema-OT > Hi everyone. Guest guest
I'm continually battling my son's eczema. We tried florazone and it did the same thing for us - itchy, red. I brought it back. Besides emu oil (which didn't work in our case but some people swear by it), you can try tamanu oil or calendula cream (it's soothing). When the skin was really raw like that, I sometimes resorted to using cortizone for a day or two, and then started using one of the oils (we're using an oil blend right now that's a mix of flaxseed, coconut, lemon, tea tree & geranium) with the calendula cream ontop of it. The oil soothes it, but the calendula cream keeps the moisture in. Hope this helps- Cindy > > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Thank you Cindy, Marilyn and for your quick and informative response. I think I'm going to try some evening primrose oil with the calendula cream to start. I'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll try emu oil if the eczema doesn't greatly improve. If no great improvement I'll be asking Cindy for more help. Your blend sounds interesting. Does any one have a strong feeling about what might be the specific cause of the eczema at least in their particular situation? Yeast, bad bacteria, food sensitivies, or malabsorbtion of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids. This flare was definately due to die-off but it has been a continual problem that has gotten a bit better with SCD. I'm just wondering if I should give less fruit, look for a food that might be contributing, try a new supplement...I know he doesn't absorb fats well and I've heard Omegas help so I'm hoping that the evening primrose oil is a key. Guest guest
Hi . In our case, my son's typical, but after doing some traditional allergy testing, we found that he has horrible environmental allergies (trees, grasses, etc.). Instead of his nose & eyes running, his skin flares. But along with that, there's cross- reactivity with foods (i.e. if you're allergic to birch, you may also have trouble with apples & melon... that kind of thing). Because I saw food reactions, I assumed he had yeast and other leaky- gut things. But after the allergy testing, I realized that's most likely not his problem. But with kids on the spectrum, anything the body can't handle may try to come out through the skin - untolerated foods, toxins, etc. My ASD daughter, actually, does not have eczema, but she does sometimes get little " pimples " around her mouth when I use too much epsom salt oil or whatever. I'm guessing it's the same principle. Hope this helps. By the way, the oil blend I have does not prevent my son from getting rashy, but it does seem to soothe it so that it goes down fairly quickly as long as I don't knowingly give him something else that's going to irritate it. Good luck! Cindy > > > > Hi everyone. Guest guest
Hi , For me, citrus fruits cause it, and oils are a really big problem. I know evening primose oil is supposed to help eczema, but it made mine worse, as did cod liver oil (and olive, sunflower, safflower ...). I've had supplements break me out, too, unfortunately. --- Carr carrfamily4wh@...> wrote: > Thank you Cindy, Marilyn and for your quick > and informative response. Guest guest
Hi Jess: Poor little guy. Do you have him on cod liver oil and essential fatty acids? These 2 supplements really help boost the immune system (also Moducare is good.) Often these " eczema " type rashes have to do with a suppressed immune system. Email me back privately if you want details. Carr carrfamily4wh@...> wrote: Hi everyone. Guest guest
I suffer from eczema. Oils and particularly cod liver oil give me eczema. Anyone trying them might want to keep an eye on it for making things worse. --- JENNIFER HONG pharmhong@...> wrote: > Hi Jess: > Poor little guy.
