Guest guest
Good evening everyone, I had my surgery August 11 and am doing ok so far. I was wondering if anyone has found any sugar free yogurt? I found some that has aspartame and still has 15 grams of regular sugar. That sounds too high, so I am leary to try it. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you. Jeanne P.S. I am down 41 pounds (10) from the week before the surgery.
Guest guest
The 15 grams of sugar is the lactose. That comes from the milk thats in the yogurt. I don't think they make a yogurt that is lactose free

Guest guest
In my opinion, any nutrient is better absorbed and utilized as a food rather than a pill. However, ultimately, yes, what the yogurt provides (other than great taste!) is probiotics and probiotics can be obtained as a supp. Again, I've been away from the list for a looooooooong time and things might have changed. But to the best of knowledge...... Marisol mom to 11yo SCD since 12/01 and 8yo Lena SCD since sometime in 2002 Flor Lozano-Byrne flbyrne@...> wrote: Hi, I am new to the list. It is believed that the bacteria in dairy yoghurt are encapsulated and are able to travel further down the GI tract -which would have greater healing potential. The probiotics are also good for those unable to do dairy, but Elaine recommended only using a maximum of 3 billion CFU's of probiotic (powders, capsules)/day. The dairy yoghurt contains approximately 3 billion CFU's/mL. In a tablespoon that's about 45 billion CFU's, 15 billion in a teaspoon. The maximum yoghurt rec'd by Elaine is 3 cups for an adult and about 2 C for a child. Guest guest
yogurt I just made nut yogurt for the first time last night. I just put it in the fridge. It seems to look separated. Creamy on the top and yellowish thin clear and runny under that layer. Everything was very clean before use and I used the GIProHealth non-dairy starter. Anyone that has made almond yogurt before please repond as to what consistency you got.? Because it's separated, is it a bad batch? I put 990 mg of legal acidophilus in the batch before plugging it in for 8 hrs. Was I suppose to put it in AFTER anD then put it in the fridge? We won't be eating any unless someone tells me they have had the same experience. What PH is the yogurt suppose to be when it's done? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, If the yogurt has the correct starter and smells " yogurt-y " and tastes tart it should be fine. If you ate a bad batch you'd get sick - it would depend how much you ate and what type of reaction you'd normally have to eating bad food. If it seems okay (tart etc.)just start with a little beacuse there will be lots of good bacteria in it and it may cause die off. If not doing any other probiotics 1/8-1/4 tsp and gradually increase the amount accordingly (ie. if no bad reaction double the amounts). Guest guest
Thanks Sheila. I did have some yesterday and it was tart. I dripped some of it and it is creamy. We are actually not just starting out with the yogurt but, we ahven't had it for a bout a month because we ran out of starter. Since I have some now, we should start over again with the minimum amt. 1/8 tsp? Jenn & Kali 95% SCD 5 months Re: yogurt > > > > > > > The nut yogurt that I made separated, too. It's warped and not sealable. Can I use the glass container?... if yes... Should the lid be screwed on tightly?... I've got it in there now but the lid isn't real tight.
