Guest guest
Elaine: My daughter has spoken many words in her life, but doesn't speak in any regular fashion at 13 years old, so we consider her non-verbal. We believe the deteriation of her ability to speak definitely correlates with her GI situation becoming more and more severe over the years (i.e. toxins in her brain from her gut that we weren't aware of either damaged her brain, or hindered her ability to learn when there were windows of opportunity. We hope the damage is reversible now that we feel she is healing up with SCD.) At 5 years old, my daughter infrequently used photos of actual objects, people and places to make requests and " engage in conversation. " Picture Exchange, as it's done traditionally in classrooms, never really was how it worked with my . We would show her an array of possible choices and she would touch or take the one she desired. She would tap the picture with an object, or someone's finger, or even take the picture from you, but she would never choose one and hand it to anyone. She has since moved to colored line-drawing style pictures, rather than photos, in her pictures used to request and comment. Last year, she obtained an augmentative communication device, which " speaks " a recorded message when she touches the picture. This has opened up a lot of possibilities for her, but in some circumstances, it's not as useful as pictures. Feel free to email me off-list for more info, if you'd like. Jenn: Concerning yeast, when I said I double her dose of Lactobacillus Acidophilus, I should have clarified quantity. usually gets 6 to 8 of these capsules per day. When we double, we're giving her 12 to 16 per day. Granted, my is tall and weighs about 160 lbs, but she has taken 3 to 6 capsules a day as a maintenance dose for as long as I can remember, even when she was a little thing. There's no harm done in getting " too much " of the healthy yeast that your intestines need in the war against candida and other kinds of nasty microbes. Our biggest concern is always the expense of giving her this many capsules at a time. These are expensive capsules, so if she only requires 8 to do the job, it would be a shame to find out that we're giving her 4 more than that, which her system is just flushing. But, it's worth any price to get 's bad yeast, and her behavior, under control again. So, Jenn, doubling Kali's dose by just 1/2 capsule may not be near enough. Don't be afraid of the healthy yeast. I think we're all too afraid of " die-off symptoms " on this list, even though no two people seem to be able to agree what die-off may look like for any one child. But, we DO know what thrush and vaginal yeast look like and those are nothing to play around with while worrying about die-off. Die-off is what we're after, not something to be feared. So, better unexplainable behavior that later you can look at and call " die-off " than to not treat definite symptoms for fear of this invisible monster called die-off. Oh, and we've always mixed 's supplement capsules with legal juice in an oral syringe, so if you're imagining that happily swallows all these capsules . . . NOT! Thankfully, she does very tolerantly suck down anything we put up to her mouth in an oral syringe. Hope this extra info helps. Guest guest
Nannette, Thank you for sharing your die-off experiences with your daughter. I will be using this Christmas vacation to nuke that yeast, parasites etc. with foods and some extra probiotics. My daughter is VERY HYPER when we give her more probiotics than what she is used to litterally climbing the walls. I can handle this here at home but, at school the teachers cannot get her to focus etc. when we give her the extra yogurt. I will be getting some activated charcoal for when she starts school up again. I hope that I have enough time to get this under control. I just want to be sure her little body can not be damaged further by detoxing too fast. I was just wondering if that's even possible. It's got to be hard on the body. I'm sure having yeast or parasites is difficult for a little one to have also. We give Kali her " meds " through a syringe with juice too. I am excited to see what this can do for my baby. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you so very much.
