Guest guest
Nate I am so sorry about your pastor! You are right, being obese makes it hard for pathology to be diagnosed. That is just one more reason/incentive to have the surgery. I pray your pastor survives this, I'm so sorry he's having such a difficult time. :-( fg At 11:52 PM 05/01/2000 -0700, you wrote: > >Hi All, > >Would all littermates for May 25th please come forward??? Guest guest
fg, This year I have had an MRI, catscan, ultrasound, uGI, chest exray, 2abdomain exrays..Every blood test there is, EKG, pulmonary..eeeeeeeek, after this I am staying away from the Medical field. I just wanted to lose weight..however after my surgery Friday (for my kidney stones). I have a clean bill of health, well except for my diabetes and hypothyroidism, (which are very much under control). And of course I need the MGB. Guest guest
Oh yeah, even with all the compassion in the world, you can't avoid the fact that it is harder to image an obese body in whatever modality. And if I have to go and tell the patient that we couldn't get the information the doctor wanted because of their size, I just die inside for them knowing exactly how they feel. But 225lbs for a gallbladder should have gone fine. I had my US not that long ago, and I am larger and it came through fine. Maybe they just don't have the umph behind the equipment like we do here at the hospital. I feel so bad when patients exceed the capacity of the machine. And even with xrays, we get exposed to far more radiation than our thin peers, not to mention that fat makes it scatter and the pictures are ugly. Even during physicals we are harder to examine. A couple of weeks ago when I went in for my pelvic exam, I wanted to say, 'why bother?' It's not like they could feel my ovary even if there were a problem. So in those instances, being obese scares me because I know that something could be a real health problem and because they can't see or feel it, they might not find it until it is too late. Or heaven forbid if I have a heart attack and someone tries to do CPR. I know it's not pleasant to talk about, but my goodness, it's true. And while I'm healthy, I try not to think of these things, but you know, if I stay like this, my day of reckoning is coming, and then I'm going to be flat on my back, helpless and feeling like a beached whale. I don't think I could take that. So we, as a collective are doing something about it. :-)) So not only are we getting our bodies more healthy, we are also increasing our chances of early diagnosis if a problem develops in the future. That's incentive enough for me. :-)) fg >This is so true I am 225lbs and when I had my ultra sound, I pick up the >results to take with me it said " Do to the size of the patient it is >difficult to see the gallbladder " >That really make me want the surgery! > >------------------------------------------------------------------------ >Avoid the lines and visit avis.com for quick and easy online >reservations. Guest guest
Yes, I try to stay away from the medical field too, even though I work in it everyday.:-) Good luck with your surgery on Friday.....are they doing open surgery or are they doing lithotripsy? I have a friend who just got his stents out---he was in alot of pain while they were in. Some day they will find a way to keep those darn things from forming! I once saw the administrator at the hospital I was working at brought down to his knees by a kidney stone. I thought, " gee, this is a good time to ask him for a raise! " LOL j/k Yes, after all you're going through is said and done, perhaps on your medical sheets where they list allergies you could say, " Hospitals. " LOL fg At 12:02 PM 05/03/2000 EDT, you wrote: >fg, This year I have had an MRI, catscan, ultrasound, uGI, chest exray, >2abdomain exrays..Every blood test there is, EKG, pulmonary..eeeeeeeek, after >this I am staying away from the Medical field.
