Guest guest
Eli has been on scd for one month. There has been no change in his psoriasis or constipation. He has been on stage3, all cooked foods. I'm beginning to worry that he isn't getting any live foods. Is it ok to move on to raw fruits and vegetables, peeled, or do you recommend staying on the cooked stuff for a while longer? Also, of course, there's more variety if you can eat raw foods. Thanks, a H.

If he is still having constipation then raw fruits and vegetables may just make it worse. Please see http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/constipation_ continued.htm Exactly What foods is he eating? Guest guest
Sheila, Here's his typical diet: We rotate proteins in a 5 day cycle- turkey, peas and extra nuts and seed butter, chicken or hen, tuna and avocado, and salmon. For breakfast he almost always has cooked fruit topped with almond butter or baked with a nut flour crust, or with almond yogurt. Lunch is usually a lot of cooked vegetables, with some of his protein for the day. Dinner is the same as lunch. He's eating about 15 cups of almond yogurt a week. On occasion I make vegetable juice. Snacks are usually more cooked fruit, nut balls, or one of the (egg free) cookie/candy recipes that are scd legal. Maybe you can see something that might help with his constipation? We tried the prunes and the concentrated prune juice with lemon and tea, with no success. Thanks, a H. > Hi a, > > > Eli has been on scd for one month. Did you start with the intro diet and then add foods or start with the " Stage 3 " foods? Which vegetables are you using. Some even if cooked may contribute to constipation (or diarrhea). It may help to go back to the intro or to a very stripped down diet for a day or two and then re-add foods to see if any of them are contributing to the constipation. What are his constipation symptoms? Dry stools, infrequent stools...? > Dinner is the same as lunch. > He's eating about 15 cups of almond yogurt a week. > On occasion I make vegetable juice. Is the veg. juice diluted? Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I'm not sure what the Intro diet is. We printed something off of the website (5 stages), and started with Stage 1. Since there were so few foods, we did that for 1 day. If we don't rotate, Eli developes intolerances. We only did Stage 2 for one day as well, since most of the additional foods were already a known problem for him (garlic, mushroom, peppers, watercress)or unavailable when we were at that stage (the winter squashes). So we've been at stage 3 for about 6 weeks now. The vegetables he eats (all cooked and peeled) include all leafy greens, summer and winter squash, tomato, asparagus, carrots, green beans, beets, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, onion, peas, etc. His constipation symptoms are little hard pellets, about once a day, that are hard to push out. When I do give him vegetable juices (about twice a week), I don't dilute them. But he didn't have juices for the first month on the diet anyway. I don't believe the constipatinn is caused by any particular food. He eats the foods that agree with him, that are scd legal. He has been constipated for about 6 years. I believe that my nutritionist figured something out today. He has tested high in sodium on two seperate tests. He eats only sea salt, and although we liberally salt our food (all spices and some herbs don't agree with him), I believe we still consume less salt than most people out there who eat chips, prepared foods, etc., so I don't know why his sodium is so high. Be that as it may, she said that with such high sodium, the body needs to pull water out of the tissues from wherever it can, and might be pulling it out of the colon, causing dry stools. Her recommendation is to discontinue the salt for a little while, and load him up with water. I'm hoping for the best. She makes a lot of sense. Does anyone out there know why sodium would be so out of balance? Thanks for your help, Sheila, I really appreciate your taking the time. a H. > > > Hi a, > > > > > > > Eli has been on scd for one month. If the salt /water balance thing doesn't help enough let me know and we can go back and look at the food list. I have a few ideas.
