I just bought a 25 lb bag of Honeyville farms blanched almond flour

and it's not nearly as fine as I was expecting. Is all almond

" flour " about the same consistency as polenta? It's no finer

than the Trader Joe's almond meal that I bought to experiment with. Liz,

I just this afternoon got out my almond flour to try for the first

time. It's from Honeyville and it is VERY fine. I was

surprised how fine it is. It sounds more like you ended up with almond

meal to me.

Liz, could you put some of the almond flour in the blender and whiz

it finer? I have some pecan meal that is awfully dry and hard to use

and I'm going to try this and see if I can get flour out of it.

Maybe you could freeze the almond meal for later.  I bought that first thinking all of it was the same.  I could not.  My mom ordered almond flour from DW (at the same time she bought jam and almondine as a birthday present) and it is amazing the difference.  I can handle the flour and I don't think even now I could eat the meal.  Something to think about.  Maybe even trading someone.

ordered was blanched almond flour that promised to be very fine and great for

bread recipe, but it definitely added a nutty crunch to the bread. Not

unpleasant, but not sure my son can handle that much texture yet.

I already contacted Honeyville because there was a hole in the bag and a bunch

leaked out into the box and got damp and clumped together. Maybe I should

contact them again and ask if I was sent almond meal or almond flour.

order it was not as finely ground. That is the only time that happened out of

all the times I've ordered over the years.

Look at the batch number on the label and then contact them to see what they

say.

In my case I just used it because it was close enough. But for someone that

hasn't been on the SCD for long it might be an issue.

Liz, that's what it sounds like to me, that they sent you almond meal

instead of flour. It's been nearly 30 years since I could use

gluten, but the almond flour I have reminds me of the whole wheat

pastry flour I used to get, quite fine and slightly beige in

color. No where near mealy.

For what it's worth, I just tried whizzing some pecan meal I got in

the blender to see if I could make flour out of it. It got a little

finer but even though I stopped a number of times to stir it up, it

started trying to make pecan butter at the bottom and the blender was

going " Rrr rrr " and not sounding happy. Maybe I'll get a

mini-food-processor and see if that would work better for

meal-to-flour. I don't have any almond meal to try to see how it works.

bag almond flour is great and lasts 5 months. also has vanilla.
