Kay:

Everyone responds differently but I will not ever take another shot of depo

provera again. I gained 30 lbs- which I have been unable to lose, I had

terrible headaches and when I stopped it after only 2 shots I didn't have a

period for a year.- not that I missed it but my hormones have not been

straight since. I was so sick during that time I don't know if it was an

aggrevating factor or not. Obviously this is something for you and your GYN

to discuss but you might ask your GI if he has patients on Depo-Provera with

problems.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in on the BC issue. No doctor will

prescribe me birth control pills. My former FP dr. was absolutely

convinced that my acute pancreatitis attacks were caused by Ortho Tri-

Cyclen so he put a note in my chart saying no BC pills and sent a

letter to my gyn stating the same thing. I'd kill to get back on BC

pills because my endometriosis is out of control without them.

Depo has been presented to me as an option. I'm just dead-set

against it. I've heard some good things, but I've heard a lot of bad

things. Mostly I don't want the weight gain, I already carry enough

weight as it is.

Another option is the mini-pill that many women take while they are

breast feeding. It's not as effective as the combo pills for

contraception, but it is not said to cause pancreatitis.

Angel:

I know what you mean about the endometriosis. I've been having terrible pain

with it. I can't take BCP's due to previous blood clots. I refused Lupron

(way to many side efects). I'm going to a GYN in Atlanta Fri. He is suppose

to be one of the best and it is what he specializes in. I've had 2 surgeries

for it already. Don't know what my other options are- if any- but I'll let

you know what he says.

Just wondered if HRT would have the same effect on the pancreas as BC pills.

What I got from the doctor was that the estrogen is the

aggravtor...so I guess that would include anything that gives

estrogen. But maybe it is just extra estrogen that affects the

pancreas? So with HRT you are replacing lost estrogen, not

adding more like bc pills do....

Hi Kay,

I can tell you what happened with me. I was on the pill due to

ovarian cysts for many years. Then I switched pills and within a

couple months all of a sudden I have issues --MR P. The docs and

myself will never know if that was it or not to make the divisum come

out. I was born with the divisum so why did it come out in my 20s and

not earlier? Explained to me like MS something triggered it. So long

story short they took me off every med I was on etc because they

didnt know what my issue was or with meds. I was off the pill for 5

months and after being seriously sick with cysts again the docs

talked and put me back on the old pill which has less estrogen. Will

never know what caused the divisum to come out and it could have been

that it would have anyway or from another type of med.
