Guest guest
The book has been mentioned at least one other time, but I don't think anyone responded about owning/using it. If it was created by anyone on this list, I am not aware of that. I don't know whether the authors had Elaine's permission to publish an SCD cookbook. I don't know whether it is a compilation of recipes found online or whether it contains new and original recipes by the authors themselves. I'd like to know more about it as well. Guest guest
Use caution when ordering from Digestive Wellness . They have attempted a good service in providing convenience food but have taken liberties in declaring some items SCD compliant that are not. When I emailed them to ask which products are SCD compliant they responded " all. " That is not the case and Elaine was most distressed. It is our responsibility to use stricltly SCD legal foods for our children and/or ourselves when something is in doubt. I looked up the cookbook on the Internet and could find nothing additional about it. That is not to say it's is not usable as it is possible to adapt all kinds of recipes to SCD. Carol F. Guest guest
I bought this book 2 months ago, when I sarted the SCD with my daughter, along with Lucy's and Raman's book, what I like is that the recipies are really for kids: pizzas, chikcen nuggets, chicken marinara, salads and sides, lots of breads and desserts, not very elaborated that kids would like, the kids of the authors are on the SCD (I talked to one of the authors) the only thing is they use stevia in their recepies. I remember Beth Bivens writing a message about this book. For me it was worth buying it. Guest guest
Hi Carol, I have used the Digestive Wellness products for a long time and am happy. I have a teenage daughter who felt deprived because she only got homemade food. I tried to use their products as a compromise. My daughter did fine with their products. I did not give my son any of their products. When my daughter did SCD with digestive wellness products she made more progress than her brother who did not use the DW products. That is because she is younger and a female. Unfortunately, my dd decided to rebel and sneaked regular junk food outside the home....so her progress did not match that of her brother. I have had a fight with her last night and she promised to just do SCD with DW products. I hope that she keeps her promise but am not very optimistic.... Elaine did not like the pomegranade juice. Some of the stuff is for advanced SCDers. The nut bars are not for beginners. If you use their products, just start with a tiny bit in case the food is too advanced for you. It is very important to realize that DW has 2 seperate businesses. One is a catering service for residents of BP. It is an informal network of friends who recruited friends and neighbors to do SCD for IBD. These foods get made in the home of the owner of DW and get delivered by a friend who works in BP. Since they are all friends, the food does not need to be made in a cetified kitchen. These friends learned about SCD from the owner of DW and consider her their leader and counselor. The people of BP are very reluctant to change. If you visit their neighborhood, you will think that you are in a different century. When a certain SCD advanced food was declared illegal, they resisted and continued using it and DW continued selling it to them. This angered several SCD leaders.... The website was created after this controversy. It is not made for the informal group of friends from BP but for the internet community. Most of the DW internet clients come from the ASD community. The food there is made in a cetified kitchen by a baker and they do not use that advanced controversial product. I have tasted both the " internet food " and the BP food and they sure taste different! The owner of DW really wants to work with us. If a certain food does not agree with our children then we should tell them and they will remove it from the website. I think that the best compromise it to label SCD with DW products as the " DW diet " . If anyone does not get good results on the DW diet, then they should not blame SCD. The parent should retry and do SCD with just using homemade foods. Unfortunately, many moms do SCD but give GFCF treats to their children because they do not know how to bake. I feel that it is our obligation to let parents know that there is another alternative. I make nut cakes in the slow cooker without any effort(inside a glass dish). I urge all parents to learn to bake with the SCD products. It is so easy and fun!!! mimi Please send me any feedback regarding DW products. Somehow and with finality it will have to be checked out. One cannot sacrifice the official det protocols for the sake of convenienec. I know cooking from scratch is a departure but it can be simplified and there are shortcuts. In discussions with people who do GF they claim they only use their commercial convenience foods occasionally. Bottom line, whatever we do, it just has to be best for healing the children in my opinion. A Elaine's memorial service several brought SCD baked goods and it wasn't long before all the guests were headed to the SCD table and seemed to favor our creations. They wanted the recipes too. Guest guest
Jody, This book was completed by 2 parents of autistic children. Wellness Pharmacy sells the book and it is also for sale on the same website that Elaine's website directs you to when telling you to purchase BTVC. www.digestivewellness.com i think. At wellness pharmacy it has a sticker on the book that says SCD recipes. If you go to www.digestivewellness.com and type in " cooking to heal little tummies " in the search it will pull it up. -Crystal > The book has been mentioned at least one other time, but I don't think anyone > responded about owning/using it. > > If it was created by anyone on this list, I am not aware of that. Guest guest
I say 2 parents of Autistic children but then again I'm not 100% sure of that. They had a stand up at the GALA this year (frundraiser for AUtism Society of Alabama) and it talked about the kids being autistic and being on the diet.... but I now thinking about it I am not sure if it was the authors children or someone elses. Either way the sticker says SCD recipes. -Crystal > > The book has been mentioned at least one other time, but I don't > think anyone > > responded about owning/using it. > > > > If it was created by anyone on this list, I am not aware of that. > I don't know > > whether the authors had Elaine's permission to publish an SCD > cookbook. > > > > I don't know whether it is a compilation of recipes found online > or whether it > > contains new and original recipes by the authors themselves. > > > > I'd like to know more about it as well. > > > > Jody > > mom to -6 and -9 > > SCD 31 months

SCD has a pending trademark which also does not appear. When you think about it, we post our own recipes here, but Jody approves them first. Do you wonder why we are so fussy. One of the recipes includes Applegate Farms bacon. That won't work right now because there bacon currently contains cane juice. I apologize for selling this book on my website before it was reviewed. This cookbook was written by Jenna and Hagood: Two moms of autistic children who wanted to share their great recipes with the public. I will not be selling this cookbook on my website until I get an approval from you and some other women. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Esther Carol F.
