Welcome Sara:

With Open Arms!

I am fairly new, I have however submitted my patient information and Debbie

has mailed to my insurance co. a huge letter requesting pre-approval. I now

am waiting for the approval or denial (I PRAY APPROVAL).

I have one adopted grown son (28) and one daughter (24) that God has given to

my Loving Husband and Myself.

You will love this group they are so supportive.

God Bless!

Sara,

From one adoptive Mother to another....WELCOME!!

I felt the same way you did when I found Dr. R's website, and I'm happy to

report I'm one month postop!

I'd love to hear more about your children and your adoption journey (off list

of course). If you want to chat, feel free to email me privately.

Of course, I'm also more than willing to share my MGB experience lol!

Hi,

I am new, although I have been on this list for a few weeks. I posted once

before to ask a couple of questions. Thanks to those who answered. Anyway, I

would like to introduce myself to the group. My name is Sara. I am 42 years

old, 5 feet 4 and a half inches tall, and I think I weigh about 250, maybe a

bit less. My scale at home is not that accurate. Until a few days ago (when I

finally weighed myself again after avoiding it for a long time) I thought I

weighed less, and that my BMI would be borderline (39 or so) and that I might

have to gain a bit of weight to have this surgery, LOL. It was discouraging to

find out I now weigh more than I thought I did. So I guess my BMI is about 42.

I've been through diets, phen-fen, even exercised hard 5-6 days a week for

fairly long periods of time. I have lost weight, and have always regained it,

and more. Pretty much the same story that we all have, I think. I just can't

do it anymore. I told my husband that I was never going to diet again because

it was useless, incredibly difficult, and I always ended up worse off than I

was before. I won't take weight loss medication again either because the

Phen-fen made me feel like I was going to die because of all the side effects

it caused in me. I started researching weight loss surgery about 3 months

ago. I happened upon Dr. R's site by accident during one of my searches for

more information, and after reading a bit, I was suddenly struck by the feeling

that this is what I need to do. I have since been reading everything and

praying about it a lot, and I truly feel that I need to pursue this. I had

been thinking about having open RNY, but did not feel comfortable with that. I

feel very comfortable with the MGB!

I have 6 children, 5 are adopted. I mention that because I saw a post from

someone a few days ago who is adopting. Adoption is a miracle in our lives. I

am a DES daughter and have lost 6 pregnancies through miscarriage and one child

to complications from being born prematurely. So, to be able to adopt has been

an incredible blessing. I am not totally digressing from WLS and the MGB

here. I need this surgery in large part because of my children. I need more

energy: I need to be healthy; I need to not hurt when I have to get up in the

middle of the night with the baby; I need to be able to sleep without waking up

every few minutes from my own snoring (which has only happened with the last 20

pounds or so - sleep apnea?), and I need to live a long time. And, we do want

to adopt another child before we are too old, LOL. So I need to lose this

weight and be healthy!! My children are 17, 13, 11, 10, 9, and 9 months. My

husband is an angel who supports me in everything, and is very supportive about

the MGB.

So that's my story in a large nutshell. I appreciate everyone's posts here and

all the information and support I get from being on this list.

Thanks,

Sara
