Welcome Chaya fay.

I am an adult who had terrible reactions to both the flu shot and shots for dust

mite

allergy ( nearly went into anaphylactic shock) and will decline such shots in

the future

because I have a highly compromised immune system.

Each person is different but the philosophy, " When In Doubt, Leave It Out " is a

wise one in

my opinion.

I realize this is a little OT, but here is my 2 cents. My homeopathic

Dr. told me to make sure we get at least 1000 mg of DHA and

EPA combined per day to help strengthen cell walls - this keeps

the viruses from getting in. He also recommended vitamin A for

this, too. It is important to get a fish oil with no contaminates

(mercury) as that could aggravate any detox problems. We use

Nordic Naturals Cod Liver oil - lemon flavored and my kids like

the taste. They also have other flavors, but we use lemon due to

phenol issue.

Also great immune boosters and yeast killers are Grapefruit

Seed Extract and Olive Leaf extract - they are very powerful

anti-virals, but OLE can kill your probiotics, too, so you will have

to make sure you replenish them.

A thought about iron - I think it was who said iron

supplements feed yeast.

My son is very suseptible to anemia because of his UC. This last

That is encouraging. I think we will keep with iron for now at least,

possibly long term, but one should be enough. My doctor really wants him

on 3 (ferrous sulfate pills at 325 mg [mcg? the standard size]) each. I

reluctantly put him on 2, not 3, and am debating going down to work,

based on the lab results which still haven't been mailed to me.

I think I may also hold off on homeopathy - we have family members

susceptible to strep so belladona flows freely - but will give him

vitamin C, in moderation.

Thanks and take care, Fay (13 year old son with CD)

Hi Fay,

Oral iron is not recommended because it is hard on the gut. It feeds harmful

microbes.

Options include iron rich foods along with sources of vitamin C and iron shots

which will bypass the gut.

Thanks Sophie. Very helpful. I'm in a bind with the iron. I think he

really needs it. He won't eat liver and I'll look into the other

high-iron foods.

Can I assume that if he has no stomach issues, i.e. diarrhea, that this

is the starting point as far as timing when he can add certain foods,

even if he still has high numbers for inflammation?

Thanks and take care, Fay
