Guest guest
Thank you so much Sheila. I'm sure you've been through the juices time and again. We don't have a GI doctor. We left him when he said that his poor eating was behavioral and the g-tube needed to placed again. We new there was somthing wrong, not behavioral! Our DAN suggested the diet and I'm currently looking for a GI in CT so I don't know for sure that he has a narrowed ilem. But now I'm wondering if his problem with grapes is a phenol issue. So I'm going to research that. And we have been watering the juice down. I have come to terms with that my 20 month old's mucousy stools that I have seen periodicly are due to gluten and the d is not due to teething but are evidence of a damaged gut. My husband is a sugar addict and I'm am hooked on carbs. We both have minor *issues* so I'm sure we will benefit from this diet. So we are all starting Monday. I am so thankful for the support of this group. Thanks, Sheila Trenholm sheilat@...> wrote: Hi , > I'm guessing that Elijah as narrowed ileums since he has difficulty with raisins, spaghetti squash and celery. He's never had raw grapes, but with this condition would grape juice be a problem or is it just the fiberous part of the food. Raisins, spaghetti squash and celery are pretty fibrous so they are harder to digest for anyone having gut issues but definitely for those with narrowed ileums. Has his doc said he has a narrowed ileum? Grape juice isn't a problem for those with narrowed ileums or strictures. Individual cases may differ but the narrowing shouldn't be a problem. > I'm asking because after we found that even Kundsen Pear Juice isn't legal (and I'm wondering why it isn't since it is labeled unsweetened and only has ascorbic acid added. I'm sure you've been through this a thousand times but I couldn't find this specifically anywhere on the website.) Elaine checked out the Knudsen juices (last year?) and only the Just Juice line was SCD legal. >we tried Welch's white grape juice. After a day he lost a few ounces (and we have none to spare) and refused to drink it this morning and was even willing to give up his favorite TV show to avoid drinking it when he took it willingly yesterday. That is usually a sign that it doesn't agree with him. Maybe it's the sulfates. Is there a legal organic white grape juice? I don't know of a legal, commercial, organic grape juice. > We tried an organic purple grape juice and he tried it, said it was " yuk! " and repeatedly refused it and I've seen him willingly dehydrate himself for 3 days so I don't want to go down that road. Were you diluting the juice 1/2 juice , 1/2 water? They can be pretty strong tasting, especially if you aren't used to the taste. > Apple is a 3 on the IgG. What other juices are legal, sweet enough and are suitable to have on the beginners diet that we will start on Monday? Here's a list of legal commercial juices: Tropicana Pure premium OJ Dole pineapple juice Heinz and 's Tomato juice The Knudsen's *Just Juice* line (not the rest of their products) Kedeem grape juice Welch's Grape juice > How about blueberry juice? Or is that not for a beginner? Should I just juice my own pears? Blueberry juice isn't for the intro. But yes, you can juice your own pears. If you can't do apples or grape juice then diluted homemade pear juice is a pretty good option.
