Guest guest
Marilyn, In July6 2004, his then DAN doctor did a great smokies comprehensive thyroid assessment. His tsh, free t4, free t3, were all in the middle of the range. reverse t3 was low-middle (range was 14.0 thru 26.1, his was 16.6). The doctor was satisfied that his thyroid was fine. Guest guest
Sheila, He says it's hard to describe. He feels like he has to poop 5 or 10 times a day. Sometimes it's loosish (especially in the morning) but often it's small dry balls or small dry ovals. But it's never good. It never feels complete. It's often hard to push out, even when it's loosish. He never feels like he's had a good bm. a H. > > Hi a, > > What are his symptoms? > How are his bm's? Guest guest
Sheila, I forgot to add that he has what I believe is psoriasis (for about 8 years) which has been mostly under control with diet for years (no grains, nightshades, spices, beans, yeast etc.). But I don't know if the underlying problem is parasites, toxins, a congested bowel, etc. a H. -- In pecanbread , " Sheila Trenholm " wrote: > > Hi a, > > What are his symptoms? > How are his bm's? About TSH: TSH ranges for kids are higher than for adults, so a TSH of 2 could indicate a need for further testing for hypothryoidism in an adult but be fine for kids. BUT the American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists did change the adult normal ranges (so hypo is considered a possibility at lower numbers than previously). I don't know if they changed the kids ranges as well. The point is that a TSH in mid range might be high and require further testing, or monitoring. Did you have TPO antibodies checked? Guest guest
I don't know. I know that I had low thyroid symptoms for years, but the thyroid blood tests that I had run were all normal. Then, I finally found a doctor that run a saliva test for me. They are much more sensitive. It showed that I had a very low thyroid. So, the tests really do matter. I can't tell you if the saliva test would show a problem or not. It costs about $140. moving to raw fruits and vegetables. >> >> >> > Just wanted to thank you all for all the help we got when > starting. >> > Eli has been on SCD for 7 weeks with no change in his > constipation. >> > Yes, we did try the prunes, prune concentrate, C, Magnesium, extra >> > water, colon hydrotherapies, etc. Since constipation was the > reason we >> > started SCD and I don't see any change at all, we're going to > move on >> > to include raw fruits and vegetables. Guest guest
I know that when I was pregnant, the constipation was incredible. It was so bad that I had a metallic taste in my mouth, and one time threw up after eating because I just couldn't put anything else in my body until something came out. One of the things that worked when nothing else would, was energy healing. I know it sounds incredulous, but I saw an energy healer once a week, and whatever he did caused me to eliminate that evening, usually. It was a very tough situation. I could eat a pound of prunes, and it didn't help a bit. For the thyroid problem, I now take levothyroxin every day. It helps, but I still don't feel 100%. I think because my adrenals are worn out and not working properly as well. I'm told my pituitary isn't sending the right signals. For the adrenals, I'm taking an herbal formula recommended by my naturopath, called Adreno-Forte. The constipation issue was a tough one. Lately, I think I wasn't having it as much because I think dairy gives me diarrhea. I'm realizing that I need to cut out dairy, because I'm allergic to it, so I'll see what happens after that. I guess I haven't really answered your question about the constipation. The things that sometimes worked for me aren't legal (xylitol, senna tea). Sometimes I used an enema, but that only cleans out the lower colon, I think. If you do have a thyroid test, I recommend finding someone to do the saliva test. One naturopath told me that the standard blood test misses most people that actually do have thyroid problems. Another naturopath ran both the standard blood test, and the saliva test, on me around the same time. Sure enough, the saliva test showed a severe thyroid problem, while the blood test said that everything was just fine!!! Go figure. Because of this, I just don't trust the blood test. I've also been constipated at times, I think, because of low iron, because as soon as I started taking iron, I became less constipated. Hope some of this helps, Marilyn moving to raw fruits and vegetables. >> >> >> >> >> >> > Just wanted to thank you all for all the help we got when >> > starting. >> >> > Eli has been on SCD for 7 weeks with no change in his >> > constipation. >> >> > Yes, we did try the prunes, prune concentrate, C, Magnesium, > extra >> >> > water, colon hydrotherapies, etc. Since constipation was the >> > reason we >> >> > started SCD and I don't see any change at all, we're going to >> > move on >> >> > to include raw fruits and vegetables. Many endocrinologists will not test FT3, will use antiquated TSH ranges, and won't test for other endocrine issues like 's or Cushing's. Guest guest
Marilyn, That's interesting, first because iron is supposed to be constipating. I'm not sure what an energy healer is, and although I would consider myself medically far left of the mainstream, I'm not sure that would be something we'd try. The basal body temperature test is supposed to be better than blood work for thyroid, so I'll try that with him as soon as I can. You might benefit from adding cytomel to your synthroid, or switching to Armourl. The pituitary thing you mentioned is based on your TSH. Do you have the numbers, and what ranges your lab gives for normal? BTW, constipation is a big symptom of hypothyroidism. I'm on a few thyroid support groups and I've seen patients really able to make progress once they regularly get copies of all their labs, learn what the numbers mean, and start insisting on the best tests. Guest guest
What's levothyroxin? > a H. Levothyroxine, a thyroid hormone, is used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Without this hormone, the body cannot function properly, resulting in poor growth, slow speech, lack of energy, weight gain, hair loss, dry thick skin, and increased sensitivity to cold. When taken correctly, levothyroxine reverses these symptoms. Levothyroxine is also used to treat congenital hypothyroidism (cretinism) and goiter (enlarged thyroid gland). This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Carol F. Guest guest
Hi a, Has he been tested for parasites, yeast or other microbes? It sounds as if something " extra " may be going on. Any other symptoms besides the constipation? eg. describe the psorias/excema...Is it a raised rash, itchy rash etc. pain under ribs,.... Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Yes, he has had parasites for quite a while. Various doctors have had a hard time finding substances to eliminate the parasites that he could tolerate. His current doc is using homeopathics, some capsules, and aome antimicrobial drips. He thinks that the parasites can undermine almost any function and that when they are under control we might see some bowel changes. His 'psoriasis' was never diagnosed- it's just what I think it is. When it started, at about 11 years old, it was on his arms and legs, weeping crusty large sores. As we started eliminating foods (mostly corn, yeast, spices, eggplant, peppers, beans, and some other foods), it became manageable. Now he 'always knows it's there', and still seems to act up only on some occasions (dust also makes him itch, and I'm pretty sure that foods bring it out. When it does appear, it just looks like large reddened areas on his legs, never get to the weepy stage because he limits his diet. Guest guest
A;lso, Sheila, as you know I have been belly-aching about getting the abdominal xray that the Pfeiffer Center recmmended, and decided not to go for it. But the lady who analysis his voice prints thinks that there is probably some food still in his diet that he isn't toleratingand is causing inflammation which might be inflaming the bowels. It's difficult to pinpoint, but she suggested bringing a little bit of all the foods he eats to our kineseologist for testing, and if he can't find anything, she thinks it's time for a GI workup with Dr. Buie (or maybe Dr. Krigsman) who is familiar with asd problems. I really hate to go that route. We'll see. a H. > > > > > > Hi a, > > > > > > What are his symptoms? > > > How are his bm's? (dry stool, small balls etc.) > > > How often does he have a bm?
