Hi --

When I was searching the web last night, I came across those (spelled

" chelated, " but pronounced like you have it), but I didn't know what

a chelated vitamin was, so I skipped those. If chelated means they

are gelcaps, that would be okay.

I only found one source (so far) of a truly good liquid multivitamin

without alcohol or sugar, but it was $49.99 a month (so multiply by

three since we are supposed to take them three times a day) and $150

a month is out of my price range for vitamins.

But I did just remember that the super Walmart that only had liquid

vitamins with alcohol in them at the pharmacy and pharmacy area, has

some liquid vitamins in the *grocery* department, sold in 1/2 litre

bottles (these are made to be sort of like a beverage and come in

orange, grape and other flavors). I don't remember what the vitamin

content is in those, but I'll check when I go by there tomorrow.

I'm especially looking for one that has a, b (1,2,6, and 12), c, and

e vitamins, plus zinc, iron and calcium.

As for the protein supplements, I left a message asking questions at

the place Shari recommended, http://www.Vita4Life.net/, because their

page says their protein is made from " pre-digested collagen. "

Now, there was a big stink about the sources of collagen not too long

ago, with it being publicized that some cosmetics manufacturers were

getting collagen from placentas of aborted fetuses. So when I see

" collagen, " it raises the hairs on my neck.

And when I saw " collagen " with " pre-digested, " I had to wonder, just

what exactly do they mean by " pre-digested? " There's probably a

perfectly fine answer, but the only things I could think of for

" pre-digestion " would be fermentation by organisms (i.e., rot), and

" pre-digestion " by animals, and we all know what that means. Blech.

So I sent emails asking them just exactly what is " predigested " and

how is it predigested and where do they get their collagen from.

I'll post here if they answer me.

I did find one source of (pure vegetable) protein supplement

providing 23 g's of protein in two tablespoons, no sugar,

no carbohydrates, no lactose, and, compared to most of the others,

low-priced ($14 for 12.3 oz.)

http://lifeplusproducts.com/pmax100.htm

Of special interest to people being treated for depression, this

protein supplement also contains L-Tryptophan. L-Tryptophan and

Vitamin B-6 are necessary to make serotonin. It is believed that a

shortage of serotonin causes depression.

Just about all of today's anti-depressant medications, called

" SSRI's, " such as Prozac and Zoloft, and even the old standby TCA

(tri-cyclic) Elavil, work on preventing the body from reabsorbing

serotonin it has released, so that more serotonin will stay available

to the serotonin receptors of the brain. " SSRI " stands for

" serotonin reuptake inhibitor. "

Be sure to get B-6 in your vitamin supplement because that is

necessary for the L-tryptophan to be converted into either niacin or

serotonin (it will be converted to niacin rather than serotonin if

you have a niacin shortage, so you might be sure to get niacin in

your vitamins, too).

Kind regards,

Dear ,

Why am I not surprised that you are doing so much research? We all

would probably be shocked to find out just how our meds are made. You ladies

probably already know this but just in case you don't, my hormone

replacement Premarin is made from pregnant mare urine. Hence the name

Premarin. All these years I have been taking medication made from horse pee.

After I saw that on the news I had to gather a lot of courage just to take

another pill. Really makes you wonder if you really want to know how our

meds are made. Keep up the good work. NEHHHHHHHHHH.

Well fellow nightowls, I am too excited to go to bed. I had a busy day

today. I had my echocardiogram this morning, then I picked up my PCP's

support letter and documentation and then my daughter and I got my patient

information form submitted tonight. The PI monster is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a relief!!!!!!! Following is what my PCP wrote.....

Dear Dr. Rutledge,

asked me to send this letter with regards to her request for the

Mini-Gastric Bypass

procedure. Her morbid obesity has been a long term condition that she has

battled with all

types of diets and medications including Fen-Phen and Redux. As with so many

of these

patients, all of her efforts to achieve a meaningful and permanent weight

loss have been in

vain, which prompted her to explore surgical options for weight loss. In my

medical opinion, her weight has played, and is continuing to play, a

significant role in most of her health problems, both physical and

emotional. As a result, her quality of life has been greatly impacted.

I have enclosed a copy of 's recent H & P for your review; but in

general, I feel she is in satisfactory condition, both physically and

psychologically, to undergo this surgical procedure. I will be happy to

continue to see post-operatively, in conjunction with you, to help

monitor her response to the surgery. If you need any further information,

please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours truly,

Dalton Rhea, M.D.

I really feel so blessed to have such a wonderful and compassionate doctor.

It makes me cry........... Genz
