Jule,

When looking for toothpaste, be sure to also avoid flouride if your son is

swallowing the paste. Tom's of Maine carries flouride-free toothpaste.

, son ASD, SCD 2 months

what toothpaste are you using?

Is there a recomended brand that suits our SCD kids? My son has not

mastered spitting, so I have to be careful with sugar.

My son was actually sucking the toothbrush and saying it taste like ice

cream, chocolate, cake...the main offender was the sorbital. I couldn't find

something 100% SCD but but this was the best. It is bubble gum flavored Herbal

Toothpaste and Gum Therapy for kids by The Natural Dentist. Ingredients:Calcium

Carbonate, Vegetable Glycerin, Spring Water, Aloe Vera Gel, Sodium Carrageenan

(legal?), Echinacea, Goldenseal, Calendula (?), Blood Root (?), Bee Propolis,

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Essential Oils. Sea Salt, Citric

Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate.

There may be something fully legal but I couldn't find any I was sure of.

My son doesn't suck the toothbrush or confuse it with ice cream so I think it's

a good one.

Take care,

, Elijah 3, ASD, UC, leaky gut, finally no more sandy stools after 5.5

weeks, and a 21 months, diarrhea and undigested food in stools stopped

with SCD and is gaining weight and growing like a weed! All SCD 5.5 weeks.

Hi Jule,

Some say that just brushing with water is sufficient because the

brushing and flossing is what is most important. Some others

uncomfortable with ingredients in any of the commercial toothpastes

make their own.

Here is one posted back in August:

" I have a great recipe for toothpaste if anyone is looking for

one:

6 tsp. baking soda

1/3 tsp. salt

4 tsp. glycerin

12-13 drops peppermint of wintergreen extract

Just mix and store at room temperature. "

This uses quite a bit of glycerin but only a pea sized (or less)

amount should be used it probably isn't too much. If your child

still swallow just use the smallest amount possible on their brush.

There are many other homeade toothpaste recipes on the internet.
