Hi everyone!

First, I would like to say thank you for all the prayers that were

sent out for those of us having surgery on Monday the 15th; WOW! The

power was there!!

This is probably going to be very wordy; I know when I was pre-op

(just 4 days ago) I wanted to know EVERYTHING that happened at the

hospital...so here goes.

Sunday, May 14th, we took the kids to the grandparents around 8pm and

tucked them in bed and said our prayers. When we (my hubby and I)

got home he suggested we go to bed; he works nights and hadn't slept

since Saturday morning. I said " Are you crazy???? Sleep??? I'm going

to clean this house!! " So, I cleaned and got everything together and

prayed and cried. At 2:30am we left for the trip to Durham. It's

only around 2 - 2.5 hrs. away, but I didn't want to be late (!) We

arrived at 4:50am and sat in the waiting room until someone showed up

around 5:45am. I signed in and my hubby went to registration to sign

me in. I met Debbie (from Cleveland) in the waiting room and we had

a great talk. They called me back just a few mins. later. My nurse

(one of them) was Pat Reilly, a wonderful woman. She got all of my

info and the copies of my bloodwork and EKG (I took them with me,

this is a good idea so that they have them right there).I then met

with the nurse anesthesist, Ruth Long. I love this woman!! She was

so nice! Anyway, everything goes so quickly, I was put on a gurney

and wheeled to pre-op. Sheila, a surgical nurse, put in my IV and I

didn;t feel a thing!! Merle was my surgical nurse and she was

excellent too! Got into the operating room and I apologised to

everyone that was going to have to move my sedated body back onto the

gurney (I even offered to buy them trusses). The anesthesiologist (a

REAL cutie!!!!!) had me take four deep breathes and that was all she

wrote! It seem like a minute later they were waking me up in

Recovery. I had some pain, not much though. They gave me some

Demoral and I was gone again. Dr. R went and talked with my hubby

and said it took 35minutes (short time!) and I did great! He also

took a " look see " while he was in there and said I had no tumors,

cancers, adhesions or scar tissue (which, the latter is amazing

because I 've had so many surgeries). He also said he and I talked

but I have absolutely no recollection of this! I asked Dr. R about

it later and he and Ruth Long just looked at each other and laughed!

I probably propositioned him, the stuff they use really makes you

lose your inhibitions!!

Back in the room I had to pee first thing! Got up and stood straight,

no problem. Just felt like I had done alot of sit-ups. Actually the

only pain I really had was with really bad acid reflux; YUCK!!!! I

ate lots of ice chips, but couldn't stomach the jello or broth.

Nothing helped that they gave me and finally, at 2:30am Tuesday, they

called the sweet Dr. He said for me to move to a chair (recliner) and

eat some crackers to soak up the acid. It seemed to help some and

got better every hour that passed by. Oh, also that night my hubby

and I did laps around the floor. No problems, just moved a little

slower than usual! I had great nurses, Margaret, (my night

nurse) and Jeff (a real great guy and a cutie!!). We left around 2pm

and got home around 5pm; hubby took the wrong exit and we ended up on

a really bumpy road! Don't forget to bring a pillow to hold against

your belly for all of those pot holes!!! Slept great last night;

loved being in my own bed again! You will get NO sleep in the

hospital, so don't do what I did, get lots of rest before the

surgery!! I feel a million percent better today and I know everyday

will get better and better. If anyone has any questions, let me

know. I am officially on the other side and not looking back!! Love

to all of you and thank you again for your prayers and concerns! Amy

Poe, thank you for your sweet phone call and concern! I love you ,

girl!!
