Dee,

I don't know that this is much help but here goes anyway... I have

Osteoarthritis. Prior to surgery I was taking Vioxx on a daily basis for my

arthritis. One of the pain meds that Dr. R. prescribes after the surgery is

Vioxx in a higher dose than I was taking prior to surgery. I haven't needed

to take this med since surgery though, except for the first week when I had

pain from a nerve that was nicked during surgery. I don't know if Vioxx is

helpful to your kind of arthritis.

Regarding your Dr. I'm sure you've tried to explain the situation to his

staff. Does he work with an associate? When my Dr. is gone, there is

another Dr. on call for his patients. If you haven't already, you might try

that. Also, you might go down to the office (assuming the staff is there)

and personally make a stink until someone can give you some answers. Stress

the point that your surgery, which you Dr. supports is scheduled before his

return and you need some answers NOW. Mind you, I'm not particularly

confrontational and it would probably be my last ditch effort to go into the

office and make a stink. But, when absolutely necessary, I do know that the

" squeaky wheel gets the grease " .

I will pray for you that your situation works itself out so that your surgery

isn't delayed.

I hope someone can help me. This is urgent. My surgery is scheduled

for next week, May 17 only now it may have to be postponed or called

off indefinetely unless I can get some answers. Dr. R. says he has

to have more information now before he will proceed.

Has anyone taken or been treated for rheamatoid arthritis AFTER

having MGB surgery? Please help me or guide me to source.

PLEASE!!!!!!!

I was treated last year for rheamatoid arthritis and taking

cortisone, through February of this year. Everything seemed to be OK

until last week when I had a flare-up. I personally think the flare-

up was caused because of the stress of going through everything for

the surgery, and all that have got this far will know what I am

talking about.

I went to see my arthritis doctor because of this flare up and I told

him about my up-coming MGB surgery. He gave me a shot of cortisone,

Kenalog, 80 mg and Celestone, 6 mg. He said this shot would see me

through the surgery and that I would also have to have a shot of

cortisone at time of surgery and he wrote out instructions for Dr.

R. at time of surgery.

I called Dr. R. yesterday to discuss this with him and he said he

needs more information. Also, that he needed a list of medications I

may have to take in the future, because the " new " stomach created

from the surgery will not be able to tolerate many medications. He

asked for a list of medications from my doctor. However I was told

today my doctor is out of town for 2 weeks. No one at his office was

willing to provide me with any information and said I would have to

wait until he got back in 2 weeks (my surgery is next week). No one

seems to care at all!

I called to 4 more arthritis doctors to see if I could get some

answers, all to no avail. No one will talk to me or give me any

information unless they see me and they say I can't get in for 6 to 8

weeks.

Are there any medications out there that work for arthritis that my

new stomach can tolerate after surgery, in the event that I need

further arthritis treatment? If so, can anyone please help me.

Dr. R. says he doesn't want to go ahead with the surgery until we can

get some answers. Please help me!! I've come to far to not get some

help now. I know there must be an angel out there somewhere.

Thanks.

Dee

P.S. If this is a duplicate posting I apologize. I posted a

previous message but it never showed up on my system. So I re did

this one. I don't know what happened to the earlier one.
