Guest guest
Hi, I am starting my 20 month old ASD son on the SCD. I have started cooking some of the recipes in BTVC but I cannot do all because my son is allergic to the ingredients. I am not sure about this allergy issue, because in the book Elaine writes about anaphylactic reactions and we don't have that. He just get a rash when he eats something he is allergic to. Would it be ok to add those foods? My son doesn't have diarrhea, so I was wondering if we can skip the intro diet because he cannot tolerate chicken and is allergic to dairy, eggs and nuts. I don't think the intro diet would be nutritious enough if we eliminate those items. Any thoughts? Thanks, Flor, mom to Simon ______________________________________________________ Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-donate3/

Sometimes the illegal starches etc. make the body sensitive to certain foods. And when the starches, illegal sugars etc. are removed from the diet it allows the body to heal enough so those reactions don't occur anymore. > My son doesn't have diarrhea, so I was wondering if we > can skip the intro diet because he cannot tolerate > chicken and is allergic to dairy, eggs and nuts. If he can't tolerate these foods yet it is probably best to skip the intro. I would still suggest staying with basic easy to digest foods becauseeven though he may not have diarrhea the rash indicates something isn't behaving properly. Eating the basic foods will allow his body to dial back the fighting reaction and concentrate on healing the gut. Basic foods would be peeled, cooked fruit and vegetables. Avoid raw and dried fruit and veggies until you see how he adjusts to the diet (He may have die off symptoms). see http://pecanbread.com/badreaction.html and http://pecanbread.com/difficulties.html#initial Some other great links for getting started on the diet: http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#transition http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#menu http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade Sheila, SCD 55 mos, 21 yrs UC mom of , SCD 40 mos
