Guest guest
Have you tried lentils. This is really an SCD list. Psyllium is a no no (and I wonder if she is drinking sufficient fluid as fibre without fluid can clog). I am no expert but I would say that goats milk is totally out of the question (or any dairy that is not properly cultured - milk has sugar and the culture eats the sugar as well as placing good bacteria in her system). Goats milk yoghurt can be given early on in the diet but it is an acquired taste and I am unsure how old your baby is and what foods can be given and what other foods may need to be supplemented. If you make goats milk yoghurt (easier on sensitive tummies than cow yoghurt), make your own to ensure cultures are live and that the milk does not have additives such as skim milk etc. Many children that have milk allergies also have soy allergies. For sugar do you check maltodextrin and all the funny names which really are types of sugar? I have found going on this diet (mainly nuts etc) has improved my sons constipation. He had gravel poo as a baby which we were told he would grow out of and did not. We initially went gluten / sugar free and things got worse! It has been the diet that has helped. I suggest checking with someone who posts here with kids your baby's age on what foods can be given. Guest guest
P.S. I forgot to mention that with SCD and digestive issues, legumes are not introduced until after symptoms have improved (3 months or so). Does she have other symptoms such as eczema, nappy rash (fungal infection?). Has she had a lot of antibiotics. I recommend this diet if nothing more than to see a potential difference. All these items can act as digestive irritants. There is a baby formula in the back of the book about SCD, " Breaking the Vicious Cycle. " Would you like to try SCD? Dairy is not mandatory but the approved dairy for SCD has almost no lactose in it. Carol F. SCD 5 years, celiac

Guest guest
Dear Carol, My son Josh, is the one who is already on SCD & I've posted here a few times with questions etc. But my baby is not on SCD & there is no reason for her to be on it. But because of what I've learnt with my son, I steer away (cautionary measure only) from certain foods for her as well. So although soya, psyllium etc. are illegal on SCD, I do give them to her without any problems. However I was wondering how else I could help her constipation. She did pass 2 stools today (unusual for her), but they did not look too good, hard in some places & almost like a " gel " in others (might be the psyllium doing this). Why is rooibos tea illegal on SCD, when " tea " is on the legal list? Rooibos tea (Afrikaans name) is produced in my country - South Africa. Thanks > > Hi, > > My baby girl is not on SCD, but I do watch her diet carefully (no > > diary, no gluten, no sugar etc.). She seems to be constipated & is in > > pain when she needs to pass a stool. I believe it comes from a root not a leaf. If your baby is not SCD then why not ask your pediatrician about remedies for the constipation? Carol F. Guest guest
All my 5 children had trouble with soy based formulas, but especially my daughter with autism. It's been too long ago since she was a baby and I don't know what is out there, but hopefully another mom with an infant can make a suggestion of something that would provide the nutrition and fluid your daughter needs, but not the constipation side effects. Guest guest
When my youngest was nursing, he had green funky stools and I eliminated everything you could think of from my diet and he still had problems. I tried the nutramagin formula and he had absolutely no problems with that... though I did not give up nursing, I supplemented with that when I somehow ate something that I knew he would not tolerate, which included cow dairy (he projectile vomited because someone accidentally put cheese on my burger, he was that sensitive). The Nutramagin has pre-digested proteins in it so it's much easier on tummy... I would try that in place of the soy as the constipation isn't a good thing. Also, raw goat milk is supposed to be very good as well, and I would have tried that had I known what I know now... here is a recipe for goat milk formula... keep in mind, fresh raw milk that is not pasturized is much better because of the natural enzymes and good bacteria that are in it. BABY: Goats Milk Baby Formula I have been told by midwifes that Goat milk is lacking in sufficient amounts of folic acid and iron. If you choose to use goat milk.....get a liquid iron supplement. Goat's Milk Formula 2 c. raw certified goat's milk 1 cup distilled water 1 1/2 Tbs.. lactose sugar 1/8 tsp. cod liver oil, mint flavored, the Vitamin D helps the baby absorb the calcium and the mint aids in digestion You can also add blackstrap molasses to add more vitamins. When we lived in WA I ran a licensed daycare. Several of the children were on goats milk instead of formula....most recommend, raw and fresh from the goat...not the stuff you get at the grocery store. Guest guest
Dear Carol, The problem with the medical Dr's in SA is that they endorse " medication " before anything else. But I will carry on looking around for something. On the subject of the rooibos tea for my son (who is on SCD), one of the web sites I came across was: http://www.sa-tea.com/thestory.html From this & other sites, it appears that the tea is made from the plant, leaves & stem. Why is rooibos not legal on SCD then and what tea would be legal? It has such excellent health benefits & is so pure & free of virtually everything vs normal tea. Thanks > > Dear Carol, > > My son Josh, is the one who is already on SCD & I've posted here a > > few times with questions etc. But my baby is not on SCD & there is > > no reason for her to be on it.
