Dear Jo,

Thanks for the info. I was wondering how you felt from not taking your

thyroid for two weeks. If I forget mine for a couple of days I really feel it. I

was just curious if this surgery affected the dosage of thyriod meds needed.

Thanks,

Genz ( Genzel )

I take .625 mgs. of estrogen a day, which is a small dosage and seems to keep

my hormones from fluctuating so much during perimenopause. I had a partial

hysterectomy at 35, so I don't have to take any other hormone to protect me

from getting uterine cancer. I'm sure that hormone replacement probably is a

factor in slowing my weight loss, but all the terrible symptoms I was

having,( insomnia, night sweats, irritibility) have really been alleviated.

I don't intend to take them for longer than two or three years, and hopefully

will be through the rough part of menopause by then. I have friends who have

tried the natural supplements, some successfully, but they didn't seem to be

effective for me.

Dr. R does not recommend large doses of hormones for his patients, since

usually overweight women have high levels of estrogen. Through blood work,

it was determined that my hormone levels at this stage of my life were like a

roller coaster. This low dosage seems to stabilize me and Dr. R. agreed it

was OK to continue them.

I was taking hormones prior to the surgery. Dr. R. thought they

could be one of the contributing factors to my problems with severe

reflux following the surgery. Therefore, he switched me to the

patch.

All is well now,

What hormones were you taking? I take .625 mg. of estrogen daily

(which is considered a low dosage) and I cannot use the patch because

I'm allergic to the glue.
