Guest guest
Hi, Gang!!! I, too was at clinic today (1pm) and got to meet Dr. R. He is everything and more. It was like having a chat with an old friend. The only bad part for me is there may be a problem with my (not everyone else's) past hernia repair. I have a patch and an old surgey report shows that the small bowel has adheared to the patch. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk. It will only be a problem if the part that is stuck to the patch is the part that he need to use for the resection. Lucky me I have a video of my last lap surgery (appendectomy) for him to look at for landmarks.Talk about your horror films (LOL) I need this surgery, so I would appreciate any and all prayers while I await the word from Dr. R. Worst case scenerio, I'll have the " stomach only mini " surgery. Sorry I haven't replied to many posts but I had 11 digests to look through when I got home. PAT, I have you and your family in prayers. God BLess You all, Yours in Christ's Love, Donna B. Did Dr. R explain it to you such as: 1. How is this procedure different from the MGB? 2.What can one expect as far as weight loss? If you could give me some info on this I would really appreciate it!!! Guest guest
Cathy, As I understand it the mini gastroplasty makes your stomach smaller (the " gastric tube " just like in the MGB), but he does not do anything else. No bypass. What this means (as I understand it) is that you will still have the same absorption capacity as before the surgery. He told me that the weight loss would be closer to 50lbs than to 100lbs. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Marie & Everyone Else, I also went to the 4/29 clinic and was extremely impressed with Dr. R. Or as Marie put it " love " Dr. R. I can see why. He is soooooooo charming. He makes you feel special. Not like other doctors who come into a room, don't remember your name (he new all his post-op names) and are in and out in a flash. Saturday, all my questions were answered. He takes his time and answers everyone's question. I feel more confident than ever that I will only let Dr. R. do this surgery on me. Mind you, I have looked into this since 1996 and have " interviewed 3 doctors. " Even came within 5 minutes of having the open RYN being done. I am glad I waited and was guided to Dr. R. I have had previous gallbladder surgery so I know I will be a bit more of a challenge for Dr. R., but he has assured me it will be OK and even though I am a BIG baby when it comes to surgery, I know I am getting the best, so that is helping with my anxiety. Anyone else out there considering May 15th? Plus, anyone reading this that lives in NC, if I feel up to it, on Thursday after surgery my husband and I are considering driving over to the ocean and staying a couple of days. We have never been in NC (except me when I flew n this weekend for the clinic) so I have no idea where we should go. I feel while that since we are driving this far we might as well enjoy it since I don't know when or if I'll get out of Ohio again. I would appreciate any help one could give me. I personally love to " country shop " but he thinks we should just lay around. Marie- it was great meeting you. I am praying that your insurance approves you.
