Guest guest
I was in Walmart the other day trying to buy all the vitamins and supplements ahead of time. I was told on another list that digesting pills can be a problem (nausea), especially at first, so I thought I'd see what the options are for liquid vitamins. Well, there were two choices of adult liquid vitamins (Geritol tonic and one the pharmacist had behind the pharmacy counter) and they both had alcohol in them! So those are out. The only other option was one type of grape flavored (bleck!) kid's liquid vitamins (with sugar) and I guess you'd have to take quite a lot to get an adult dose. All the protein supplements had sugar and lactose, except one non-lactose but it still had sugar. Oh well, it wasn't a total loss. I did get my Citracell. Has anyone else found any adult-strength, no alcohol/no sugar liquid vitamins anywhere? On that same note, has anyone found any *sugar-free* liquid protein supplements? Guest guest
, The website www.Vita4Life.net has vitamins and protein supplement just for WLS post ops. My surgeon didn't feel the vitamins were necessary, but they just came out with the liquid protein supplement which is the least offensive of the one's I've tasted - It's kinda sweet with a honey type flavor, but no sugar. The other one I've bought is Cher-amino(www.more.com ), but it is very thick and syrupy and cherry flavored. Much cheaper, but 1/2 the grams of protein (15 vs. 30 in the Vita4Life) I have been taking KALs Micro Mini multivitamins w/iron post op. They are very tiny and very inexpensive. I saw them at the local health food store, but they are available at www.vitamins.com for $3.99 for 60 pills and you get $15 off your first order - so its like just a couple of bucks for an order of 4. They come in a little tube the size of a Tylenol travel pack or a lipstick tube. Just my 2¢. Thank you so much for letting me know about them. It was getting to the point where I wondered if I was allergic to them, I have a cupboard full of different kinds. Dr's know not to give or tell people with RP and forms of Lupus Vitamin's or maybe these Dr's are really stupid, This should be one of the 1st things they tell someone with a new DX of RP. " ask your Rheumathologist " , if you want I can call my Drs back in Chicago and ask which ones again, I just don't take any so I do not have to worry any more about making a mistake with my health. People like us, I could see if they did not know this ,they would buy tons thinking that it could HELP the RP but just the Opposite, it boosts our immune system which we DO NOT WANT TO DO DURING A FLAIR. And some should never want to boost their Immune system with RP even in a remission. This is what I was told by 3 of my Dr's: My Immune system is not a normal, healthy Immune system, with RP my immune system works against me. People take Vitamins when they need to supplement or boost their immune system and with this type of Autoimmune problem we do not feed our " auto anti bodies. " (God I hope I got this right its been over 2 years) LOL. When I was DX I was on a multi, and some green one B's I think, and was being given Vit B-12 shoots for severe anemia but as soon as they found out I had RP they stopped ALL vitamins and said NEVER again, that I am just feeding the RP more power. kp

For some people with especially sensitive systems I can see where vitamins could cause that too. I happen to be one of them. >> My point exactly! I guess I did not explain it as well as I should have! There is a big difference with a compromised Immune system due to Autoimmunity and one caused by Med's, which need boosting. I do want to continue this conversion, with those who want to and I am going to start pulling out the Books tonight and post later. kp

Guest guest
Becky, My surgeon recommends Vista Vitamins. You have to take a few more than you would a multi but it covers everything. You take a few in the AM and then again in the PM. You can go to the website. If I remember correctly it is vistavitamins.com Hope this helps!
