Guest guest
Dear E-Group, While I was placing my precription renewals over the internet with Merck-Medco I came across a prescription recall for Propulsid (cisapride). This prescription drug is for the treatment of heartburn in patients who have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). During several years on the market the drug has been linked to 341 reports of heart rhythm abnormalities including 80 reports of deaths. Most of these events occurred in patients who were taking other medications or had underlying conditions known to increase risk of cardiac arrhythmia associated with cisapride. Patients who are currently taking Propulsid are being urged by the FDA to promptly contact their prescriber to discuss alternative treatments. I know I've read a lot of posts from people with GERD. I checked my medicine cabinet and found a nearly empty bottle of Propulsid. I had no clue that it is to be discontinued as of July 14, 2000. If you have questions you can contact Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc. at 1-800-JANSSEN. I found this information at www.merck-medco.com Don't mean to scare anybody but I want to make sure you know about this.
