So, can you eat anything you want, or do you have problems with certain foods? You are just doing fantastic! fg At 09:05 PM 05/04/2000 -0000, you wrote: >Here it is, four months post-op for " Yarnmama " (a.k.a. " Dee in MI " ) >and I'm feeling just fine. Guest guest
<< So, can you eat anything you want, or do you have problems with certain foods? >> Hey, fg! Yes, I do have to be careful of some foods. My new tummy doesn't like beef, " heavy " or dense foods, plain water or sweet items. " Heavy " or dense foods are things like nuts, anything with bread or pasta, or perhaps even the pastry on pot pie or pasty (Cornish meat pie popular up here). I do best with veggies, fruits, yogurt, protein shakes/smoothies, tofu; the so-called low end of the food chain. I've gotten the Dean Ornish books and they use more beans and legumes than my new tummy likes, but the system of staying away from sweets and simple carbs is very easy for me and my new tummy. He's the doctor/cardiologist that's been able to reverse heart disease with a combination of diet/exercise. I've learned by trial and error what works with the new tummy and what doesn't. If I " override " my initial response to the sight/thought/smell of a food/drink and have it despite that initial response, my new tummy tells me right away... " bad choice! " So I've learned to take my cue from the initial response I have to something. That may be smell, texture, presentation or even the " look " of something. Funny! Now I can eat to live instead of living to eat. It's wonderful and very freeing. I space about six to eight meals out over the day...three to five ounces of whatever it is. Three usually feels better than five. Five ounces of something takes about 30 minutes to get down comfortably. Eating quickly without chewing is no longer a good idea after the MGB (for me, at least!) Love to all those of you who are on this path; there is no greater gift than health.
