Guest guest
Hi, Josh has been on SCD since end March 05 & on the 24hr goat yogurt for the last 2 1/5 weeks. We have not noticed much improvement in his behaviour since implementing these things. When he was on bifido probiotics, symptoms worsened & we waited, anticipating an improvement, but he just seemed to almost get " stuck " & not move from there. Almost the same has happened with SCD & yogurt. From what I've learnt the bifido is not good & can promote bacteria growth & thus maybe the reason why we never gained any ground then. Is it possible that the bacteria in the SCD yogurt could be worsening or promoting bacteria growth? Any advice or comments would be appreciated. Thanks
Guest guest
What are you using as your yogurt starter? I think that in order to see what might be going on, you'll also need to tell us more or less what he's eating. Guest guest
Hi, I'm using the Custom Priobiotic starter, because it was the only non- diary starter which I could get to South Africa. Because his symptoms have not decreased much, his foods are still very basic: Butter nut, gem squash, pumpkin, carrots, marrows, patty pans, spinach (all boiled, steamed or microwaved) Lean mince, free range chicken, hake fish fillets, lamb chops (all baked, except mince is fried in olive oil) Golden Delicious Apples (cooked) - he is not wanting to eat them at present Ripe bananas (raw) Eggs (Omega 3 & Free range) Banana bread, chicken pancakes & nuts (not too often, does not always digest them so well, but helps to keep his stools moving) (snacks) Pear juice & filtered water (liquids) Salt, pepper & mixed herbs (seasonings) I feel sorry for him, because his diet is so limited.. Thanks > > Hi, > > Josh has been on SCD since end March 05 & on the 24hr goat yogurt > for > > the last 2 1/5 weeks. Guest guest
Hi . I'm not an expert by any means, but it seems to me that the vegetables he's eating are really high in phenols (pumpkin, squash, carrots, etc.). Phenols are often really hard for these kids to process - they make some kids really aggressive, others hyper. Is this what you see in your son? Sometimes it causes red ears and cheeks after eating... Is he taking enzymes with his food? I find my daughter's like an onion. You solve one problem, thus peeling back a layer, only to find another issue/layer that needs attention... Just a thought. Maybe one of the super-gurus can give their 2 cents worth too, specifically on the dysbiosis piece of it. Guest guest
Hi, He can be a bit hyper from time to time, but I have'nt see any link between the hyperactivity and the veggies. For ex. he can wake up and be relatively calm, eat breakfast & then become hyper. But on other days he eats the same breakfast & does not become hyper..I've kept a food journal previously & also from close observation over the yrs, there have been very few foods that we can pinpoint as culprits. I did try Kirkman enzymes a while back, but he reacted badly on them, so we stopped. I must say that since being on the yogurt his dark rings under his eyes have virtually gone, so this is an improvement... What other veggies without phenols can you suggest? Thanks > > > > Hi, > > > > Josh has been on SCD since end March 05 & on the 24hr goat > yogurt > > > for > > > > the last 2 1/5 weeks.
