Guest guest
Deborah, It might just be a waste of money because there is only so much lactose to be consumed and the bacteria in the packets who don't get any food won't multiply. I would make it as recommended. You can eat up to 3 cups a day. Jody mom to -6 and -9 SCD 32 months
Guest guest
Hi Debora, > I am wondering if it would be OK to use an extra packet of yogurt > starter (3 instead of 2) in order to make yogurt with a higher probiotic > content. I am trying to get a reaction to some food I ate a week ago > under control, and am taking extra probiotics in the form of capsules, > but wondered if making the yogurt a little " stronger " would be > acceptable. Adding more won't realy change the numbers much. What you can do is drip the yogurt - that way you'll be able to eat more, less fluid etc.. Are you feeling any better yet? What you can do is > drip the yogurt - that way you'll be able to eat more, less fluid etc.. My husband came up with the idea of adding an extra yogurt packet to the yogurt. (He's my yogurt and chicken stock maker.) He said, " some husbands bring you flowers... " > > Are you feeling any better yet? Well, I haven't gone to the bathroom today, which is an improvement. And had an almost normal BM yesterday morning, though it became diarrhea by the afternoon. So the jury's still out, but I seem to be improving. I'm waiting for a week's worth of normal bowel movements, before I decide anything, and by Sunday afternoon will be back in my home again, with the water my body's accustomed to, and the local organic food. I really feel for all of you who live in the midwest (I'm currently in Michigan). Without driving an hour to Ann Arbor, there is just nothing organic here in the stores, and we had to call around just to find a chicken without chicken broth added to it. And this is one of the richest parts of the state. (Gross Ile.) If I lived here permanently, I think I'd buy from the Amish. But if I can get 12 days of bad diarrhea under control with lactobaccillus rather than the Cipro my doctor prescribed me, I suppose it will be a good lesson learned. One year of almost symptom free living on SCD (I'm entering year 3) does not make me strong enough to eat scrambled eggs with olives, cheddar cheese and green chiles at 7000 feet in Colorado. (And I realize it was probably fraught with illegals.) I feel much more fragile than I did, but also blessed to be surrounded by organic farms in California. I realize SCD need not be organic, but I didn't realize how accustomed I was eating at my local restaurant, who buys from the Farmer's market and would be insulted if I asked if they used preshredded cheese. I feel very blessed to be living in a town with much more food awareness! I didn't think to ask about prepacked cheese, etc. Lesson learned. Hopefully healing, Debora SCD 2 years adult with CD, 2 healthy children also primarily on SCD for prevention
