Guest guest
Hello: I have a 2 1/2 year old son, we've been on the GFCF diet for 8 months, we did some testings and It showed yeast/bacteria issues so we are using probiotics, s.boulardii, we've used GSE and now we are trying candex. His BM's have improved a lot but then the bad poops come back. So I was thinking on trying this diet and I have a few questions... What flour and milk can I use if my son is allergic to almonds and hazelnuts? I've read that you use an special yougurt. he's allergic to milk and all his derivates among other things like eggs, bananas, coconut, beef Can this diet be done partially?, meaning using some of not allowed ingredients (some of my son's supplements are not allowed)almost all of them have fillings like rice Will this diet deal with phenol intolerances or I still have to watch that since almost all fruits and vegetables are allowed Am I going to be able to try this diet? I apreciate your comments, thanks Ligi Mom of Diego 2 1/2 ASD

You might try pecan flour. We also have nut free recipes. > I've read that you use an special yougurt. he's allergic to milk and > all his derivates among other things like eggs, bananas, coconut, beef Can this diet be done partially?, meaning using some of not allowed > ingredients (some of my son's supplements are not allowed)almost all > of them have fillings like rice > Will this diet deal with phenol intolerances or I still have to > watch that since almost all fruits and vegetables are allowed > Am I going to be able to try this diet? > > I apreciate your comments, thanks > > Ligi > Mom of Diego 2 1/2 ASD Hi and welcome, Ligi, Most members on the list were formerly on GFCF and came with the same concerns. Dairy is NOT mandatory on SCD but the yogurt seems to have healing properties for those who are able to tolerate it. It is introduced very gradually in small amounts. Pecan flour may be tolerated better than the almond or hazelnut. We also have nut free recipes. The immune system is so sensitive and reactive that it often makes a defensive response where no true allergy exists. However, we do advise never to use a food that you know provokes an extreme reaction. As healing on SCD proceeds, tolerance usually increases. Fortunately there is a very wide selction of permitted food . It is certainly possible to have a problem with phenols and if that's the case it's best to avoid them. As far as " following the diet partially, " we recognize that each child is different and may require some " tweaking " to get the most agreeable foods. SCD is about excluding a few foods with starches and sugars and including so many healthy foods. I am confident some of our members will share their stories which will reassure you. Carol F.
