Guest guest
- Thank you for your post. I hope you get well real fast, my prayers are with you. I have a friend that had the same bleeding from her port. She also soaked 6or more gowns and sheets. She said that was aggravating in it self. She also had the pain on the left side , which I believe she told me was the trapped air. It should move out soon. It took her about two weeks to feel up to par. She stayed real tired. But let me give you an update on her. She had the surgery on 12.28.99 and as of this week has lost 85+ pounds, and feels like a new woman! Good luck ! Guest guest
hello yall, had the mgb last wed may 3. surgery went fine but the post op pain was a bit more than i bargained for.when i woke up it was as if someone was standing on my stomach. i went with the pain pump which i do not recommend because i feel that i never was able to gain momentum after that. i had port site bleeding that was a bit scary, especially after about the sixth gown i saturated. dr. rutledge explained that it is like someone has stabbed you five times and you are not sutured.he also said it is better to bleed out than to bleed inside. i also had bleeding from the bowel which scared me when my nurse said it was not normal. dr.r also cleared up that this can happen due to the raw edges of the stapled bowel. port bleeding and bowel bleeding stopped about 48 hours out. left the hospital friday am and made the 8 hour trip home basically uneventful. my abdomen is now about 2/3 covered with bruising which looks a lot worse than it actually is. I seem to be very weak and tired. I am able to tolerate all juices, yogurt and broth. i stay up about 3-4 hours and sleep about 2-3 hours. have a burning type sensation over my left breast. was so severe at first i thought it was cardiac in nature but i believe it is some better with antacids and carafate. i feel a little better each day and assume this trend will continue. i am happy to be home with my children around me and to be through the surgical process. enjoyed meeting nancy and susan-you guys did great-you are my heros- wish i would have felt better to talk with you more. any suggestions/experiences about the weakness/indigestion type pain appreciated. kimberly bergin post op 5/3/

Guest guest
Hi ! I'm SO glad to hear from you and that you are home and doing better! The tiredness will go away with time and the pain over your left breast is probably some gas still in there. I have the same but it has moved up to my shoulder/collarbone area. Getting up and moving around helps a lot. That's good that your trip home was uneventful. Mine was too but there were a few times that the road was bad (lots of potholes, etc.) and my stomach turned a few times!! LOL! The only problem I have now is I still have pain when I breathe deeply. I'm sure that's from the gas still being there and it will go away. It's hard to yawn, though. I'm glad I work at home because the thought of having to go to work tomorrow exhausts me! Take care and keep in touch! Guest guest
hey susan! glad to hear you are doing good. i am up and about, doing some light housework etc. i got to thinking that some of this fatigue/blah is possibly related to caffeine & refined sugar withdrawal( i was a big partaker of both in my preop life). i have also found that being a nurse is useless to me when it comes to ME! hah hah! take care and keep me posted. k Re: kimberly back(sort of) > Hi ! > > I'm SO glad to hear from you and that you are home and doing better! > The tiredness will go away with time and the pain over your left > breast is probably some gas still in there. Guest guest
trisha, i stayed the extra day because i had so much pain that i was not where i needed to be the following am to leave. dr.rutledge came around while i was in the bathroom for the first time and we talked through the door. i said i am not there yet and he said fine. i was so glad i stayed the extra day because the bleeding peaked that afternoon. i am a nurse and i can watch you bleed awhile if i know that is expected, however, when it is coming from ME i get a little squirrely! so, i stayed the extra day because i was not yet able to leave by the discharge expectations(you are essentially back to normal, can walk without feeling lightheaded etc.) thanks,k Re: kimberly back(sort of) > , IM glad to here you are doing better!
