Trudy, I had my open RNY just shortly after you. I too, have sure hit my

share of plateau!.

My appetite has also returned with a vengence!

It started when I quit abstaining from ....sugar.

For an entire year, I abstained from white flour, sugar, caffeine, soda,

processed foods, all the breads..

Slowly, I have put back into my food program...coffee; processed foods;

breaded foods; sugar--a few bites of this & that (pie, etc.)...and then

WHAMMO! BIG time appetite! All the time appetite! I am having a struggle each

and every day & will be so glad when Halloween is over. In my " self-sabatoge "

I spent..oh...$30-$50 in mini-candies & there isn't much to hand-out

tonight...because, I bought them several times over in this past month. I am

at the gym 3-5 times/week. Daily, I am attempting (but failing so far) to

strive back---- to ABSTAINING as I used to do & get rid of these cravings!

Oh, yeah. I added " sweet alcohol drinks " back in, also :-(

This to me adds up to all of the danger signals of my pre-op thinking. I

know it all boils down to " choices " of what I do and do not put into my

mouth. And if I do or do not exercise, take my supplements, etc.

Wishing us all well,

Barb B.

  • 2 years later...

Hi there,

I am interested in starting this SCD diet. My son is now 7 and has

been GF CF for over 4 years. He has Autistic tendercies. We do alot

of the interventions that our DAN dr advises us.

Due to the fact that Stephanos eats vary little variety foods i

thought this may be a good thing to try this diet.

We eat home made cookies with rice flour [is this flour allowed?

[Dairy free marg, rice flour Fructose and a few supplements go in

as well]

We cook fish pork chicken rotated for dinner and lunch]

We eat occasionally fresh bananas

We eat the babys jars of banana and pear.

We eat occasionally Provamel soya chocolate yoghurt.

We drink via our bottle Vance Dairy free drink chocolate powder.[ we

put lots of Supps in]

We drink orange or peach flavoured carton drink no sugar .

Finally turkey ham cured with little MG to preserve it.

I live in Cyprus, i have to import alot of what i give my children,

as not only is Stephanos Autistic but my other 2 have a metabolic

disorder called PKU [ they are mild forms though]

So i need help as to get started . He already eats so little in

Variety. Help

kind regards

Sorry, but no rice flour is not allowed on the diet. Most use nut

flour/nut butters to make bread, cookies etc. Some don't use nuts

and there are alternatives posted on the various recipe websites.

Here are some of the recipe links/sites to browse through:

All SCD illegal.

These are SCD legal.

> We eat occasionally fresh bananas

These are legal if ripe, yellow with brown spots/freckles. If

yellow without spots or green then the starch in the unripe banana

hasn't converted and will feed the harmful microbes.

> We eat the babys jars of banana and pear.

Sorry, these are also SCD illegal. When our kids were little I

prepared baby food in large quantities and froze it in ice cubes

then transferred them to freezer bags.

> We eat occasionally Provamel soya chocolate yoghurt.

Illegal. If not comfortable with using cow or dairy yoghurt yet,

some use homemade nut yoghurt. Recipes to make the nut yoghurt can

be found on http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html and the goat at

I sometimes make a smoothie for my kids that is similar to a choc.

milkshake. It is banana and peanut butter blended with enough water

to get the blades to spin. With or without a litle legal vanilla.

Some legal juices are Tropicana Pure premium OJ

Dole pineapple juice

Heinz and 's Tomato juice

The Knudsen's *Just Juice* line (not the rest of their products)

Kedeem grape juice

Welch's Grape juice

and also homemade juices. All juice (incl. homemade) should be

diluted at least half with water.
