I'd love to see a discussion on this here (if that's okay, moderators).

I believe that my DS3 has early signs of diabetes - that's one of the

reasons I wanted to go on this diet, so that I could get him better ASAP

and give his pancreas the best chance.

Steph - whole family 6 weeks SCD - DS3 celiac, DS7 celiac/aspie, me

aspie, and DH (sort of SCD) :-)

The Bernstein Diet is a low carbohydrate diet, SCD is not. Elaine and Dr.

Bernstein have

both been critical of the Glycemic Index, They had that in common. ( Elaine

because the

initial research did not distinguish between mono and disaccharides,-- which is

all I know

about this.) I have seen mention of the Bernstein Diet on autism lists but am

not familiar

with it beyond the two points above.

Hi Vicki and Steph,

I am not familiar with the Berstein diet. However, some diabetics

from the long Island list reported reduction in amounts of insulin

they needed to take, more level blood sugars etc. with the SCD.

I convinced my parents to try the diet for a while, Dad is

diabetic. While they stayed on it, he told me the same things, his

blood sugar stayed more even throughout the day and he was able to

reduce the amounts of insulin and overall he said he felt much

better. Unfortunately, they didn't keep up with the diet.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to thank you for the wealth of information about SCD + Diabetes

Diet. Very gratefully received. I follow SCD for my gut issues but am

looking to help Gemma with the Diabetes Diet and wondered if I could follow

both at once. I've had two responses from people who have done both in the

past and think I may be able to work them into our family with their

help/husband's support/doctor's guidance.

Thanks again

Vicki

PS: Has anyone heard how Marilyn is doing - she only just went back to New

Orleans when news of Rita broke.
