Guest guest
I think it's hard to say there is one, main specific " avoid " list. Everyone reacts differently to everything. Some people can tolerate alcohol in products, other people can't. Some of us can't use products with glycerin, others can... It's really trial and error for each individual. Guest guest
Welcome Robin: The one thing every new person on this board learns is that there is no one answer or set of rules for this disease. What works well for one person will send another into flares and breakouts. Continue to do searches in the archives and new messages for products that you're interested in. You might have to try several products, change your diet and other habits a bit before you find the right combination that works. Many on the board use the Oil of Olay cleanser, but I haven't heard much about the Total Effects moisturizer. As for the Cetaphil products, some can't use it because of the Propylene Glycol or Cetearyl Alcohol. (Personally, I don't have a problem with it.) It's okay to moisturize after the Metrogel, if you feel dry. The gel is very transdermal and absorbs quickly, but I ususally wait 15 minutes or so before applying another topical. Also, many women on the board seem to use Jane Iredale or one of the other natural mineral based cosmetics lines. Clinique City Block, Zinco, Vanicream (sunscreens) are popular as well. Hope this helps, at least a little bit. GT > It struck me that there are a lot of contradictory > " triggers. " I read that Oil of Olay Total, for > instance was a good cream to use on one's face. Guest guest
Hello - I have to pipe in and say that I've had excellent results with Oil of Olay Total Effects moisturizer (fragrance free). It's the only moisturizer that I've been able to use without reaction... and over a long period of time. I know we are all different - so hope this helps. Guest guest
Robin, Like you, after finding this group, I spent many hours reading and looking back at the archives. I was totally confused. People were talking about things I had never heard of, ie; flax seed oil, wobenzyme, etc.... Not until I received Dr. Nase's book was I able to put all the information into some order. Before that, it was all too confusing and I didn't know where to start. It even brought me to tears in the beginning b/c it was all so overwhelming and confusing, coupled with the lack of support that I got from my dermatologist. I'd suggest you start there. Go to drnase.com to see his website and think about purchasing his book. It's costs about the same or less than a visit to your derm, and much more worthwhile, in my opinion. It will all make sense soon, I promise. Good luck. ~~~Beth~~~
