Hi Marilyn,

stools have been a little sandy the next day.

Are you using nut flour/butter..?

Some have reported sandy stools and they " seem " to be related to

yeast die off.

stools stop being sandy even if I continue to take Candex?

It shouldn't unless some other overgrowth is contributing to the

sandy like stools (thought to be bile salts).

yeast overgrowth?

In one of the above threads it was reported that the child continued

to have sandy stools (which indicated die off since no nut flour)

until the fourth month and then they stopped. So, when the sandiness

clears up you are probably getting pretty clear of the overgrowth -

keeping in mind that you'll continue to have yeast and bacteria in

your body but what you are looking for is a good balance of them.

don't want to take them. I'd rather understand the biological

symptoms, and learn to read my own body (it's also cheaper). Also,

the stool tests, I've heard, have a 50% error rate, and often don't

show an overgrowth, even when there is one.

Since you don't have other yeast symptoms you'll have to go with

yours which is sandy stools. My curiousity: Did you take the 4

capsules/day ramping up and down as the directions suggest or have

you just been doing 1 /day? (I am taking candizyme which is similar.)

Sheila,

I haven't yet tried any products that have nut flour (sounded like too much

work!), although very occasionally I'll make the peanut butter brownies, or

have the cashew cookie bar made by Larabar. I'll have the sandy stools,

though, after having taken Candex, even if I haven't had any nut products in

several days, so I'm assuming they're related to the Candex and not the nut

product. Could I be wrong?

So far, I've only taken 1 Candex a day. I know the box says go up to 4, but

since I don't seem to have any huge things that are bothering me that I

thought were related to yeast, I figured I'd stick with just one per day

until I use up the box. Is this okay? Should I work up to taking the whole 4

per day?

I've heard that some folks don't use anything for yeast except SCD itself,

so I figured not doing too much with the Candex was okay. I bought it a year

and a half ago, and recently discovered it unused at the back of one of my

cabinets, and just figured I'd take it until it was gone since I had it, and

then be done with it.

Thanks for your help,

Sheila,

I should have read the three posts you had listed below before replying. I

just read them, and they seem to say that the sandy stools have something to

do with bile salts. I don't know what this means. What are bile salts, and

is this a good or bad thing?

I've also read that it's best when stool float on the surface. Mine

definitely sink right to the bottom and stay there. I think I've read that

when they sink, it means that fat is not being absorbed properly. It makes

sense to me that since fat is less dense than water, that a stool that

contains fat would float on the surface. Does the fact that mine sink to the

bottom mean that my body is hanging onto the fat and not absorbing it in the

stools and sending it out of my body? If so, would digestive enzymes handle

this?

Thanks again for all your valuable help,

Marilyn

Sounds like die off (bile salts) from taking Candex.

Since you don't have major symptoms, just some sandy stools, you may

be fine with 1/day. It may take longer to stabilize your yeast but

will probably still get you there - along with the SCD of course ;)

Well, you are getting the yeasties down to a better level so it's a

good thing.

I think you have it backwards. The floaters can indicate

malabsorption problems or gas in the stool. The sinkers are good..
