The yogurt can be dripped through cheesecloth or a paper coffee filter. It can

be done at

room temperature or in the fridge.

Did your daughter follow the intro diet for a few days?

The one for adults is on page 69 edition 10 of " Breaking th Vicious Cycle. "

It is also at:

If this is at all encouraging, my son didn't grow at all for over a year

before being diagnosed with Crohn's this summer. He's gained close to 20

lbs. since July. Part of this is due to the meds - he is on prednisone

though finally coming off it (yay!) but it is clear that he is digesting

food better now. Is your daughter on any medication at all?

Take care, Fay

Donvier yogurt-cheese maker is great for yogurt dripping. It's easy and

mess-free. I use 3 of them - since I can't tolerate yogurt, and yogurt cheese

is much lighter on the stomach. I got mine from Digestive Wellness.

Thanks Faye,

No, she had to stop everything due to the fact of how sick it made her -

I think the Prednizone would be okay, but she came off it too fast

once and went into a long flairup.

Thank you, Carol. She actually has the book and reads it

sporadically; we were both sort of hit and miss until her really bad

flairup this time which made her get so thin. Thanks for the tip on

the yogurt cheese. I just saw Alton Brown make it on tv that way.

I'm not as familiar with medicine protocols for UC, that is, what is used

for what kind of flare ups, etc., but I'm very basically conversant with

protocols for Crohns. It's just strange that she should be taken off all

the medications. What were they? My GI started my son on prednisone, and

wanted him to go on 6-MP (generic for Imuran) right away, which would

have allowed him to wean off steroids right away, but I was resisting it.

I finally agreed to the 6-MP and I'm glad. He's also on Pentasa.

About the steroids: there is another steroid that people react to better

called Entocort. I'm not too familiar with it but know my son wouldn't

have been a candidate because his Crohn's was in the esophagus and

Entocort is IIRC most effective for colons.

If she really can't tolerate the meds, the diet may well be all she

needs. Since we're only 99.9% on the diet (my son will taste the

occasional potato chip, and I've misread some labels) I hope he can

continue to tolerate the meds. Of course we'll never know if it was the

meds or the diet that hopefully will do the job but frankly, I don't care

;-)

HTH and take care, Fay

I assume there's nothing wrong with any products from that web site,

Digestive Wellness? I just saw it for the first time yesterday. Thanks for

your answer. Hope all is well with you.

Yes, they're fine. Just be aware that some items are not for beginners, like -

nut bars, and hazelnut blondies.

Otherwise, their stuff are great and a real asset for the diet.
