The food is also Kosher. They have a second line of food that is not for SCD. Our founder uses their products for one of her children who has great difficulty complying with the diet. Some of the items are unsuitable unless you have been on SCD a long time. It is always safer to cook from scratch but some people reason that without convenience foods they could not follow SCD so you may think that is the lesser of two evils. I personally buy J. Gourmet baked goods and almond flour because Elaine supervised and authorized them as SCD legal, and they are made and available locally without shipping. They have no financial links to SCD. ( I have no $$ interest either) SCD is the diet, book - " Breaking the Vicious Cycle, " and The Herbert and Elaine Gottschall Research Foundation, a charitable memorial foundation set up to fund research. Guest guest
Hi SCDbob, > I hope you'll all forgive my ignorance, but is Digestive Wellness > website a legal part of the SCD organization? Since you wrote your daughter is only able to tolerate yogurt and cheese most of the items on digestive wellness probably wouldn't be of much help and some may actually set her back (dried fruits etc.) Eventually as she is able to tolerate more foods she may be able to use some of their goods. Guest guest
Digestive Wellness is the oldest website that offers SCD ready made foods. Its owner,Rochel W has been on the diet for years and has written a SCD cooking book. She has converted many folks to SCD and has her own SCD circle of followers. Her followers live in old fashioned neighborhoods where people know each other and the word about SCD spread very fast. Unfortunately,Rochel and Elaine had a difference of opinion concerning a certain borderline food and there was a split between the two SCD communities. Right now, things are changing. This controversial food is no longer being sold by DW. Rochel's daughter is managing Digestive Wellness and she is trying very hard to work with us to make sure that the company products are OK for children with Autism. Here is one example of the cooperation between us. DW sells cashew nuts that are roasted in cottonseed oil. These cashews are SCD legal but not optimal for autistic children who might react to the cottonseed oil. I wrote and explained this to DW and they are going to try to replace the cottonseed oil with other oils. The folks who run DW and the moderators of pecanbread both agree that it is optimal for parents to bake at home. A few years ago, when parents would go to Rochel's home to pick up their DW supplies,Rochel would teach them how to bake the SCD way for free. Unfortunately, the company is no longer home based so I am not sure if this can happen in an office setting. Our website has a large collection of easy to make SCD recipes. I do want to add several important points. *Yes,using DW baked nut products along with SCD will produce MUCH better results than GFCF! However, you might get the most optimal results if you limit the nut products. Elaine did not want our kids to eat more than 3 muffins a day. Some kids cannot tolerate the nuts in the first few months of the diet. Every once in a while, you might want to do a trial of eliminating the nuts and seeing if you see improvements. *Some of the DW products are too advanced for beginners. DW is now going to change their website to help clarify this to the parents. Please introduce only one new food at a time and watch very carefully for reactions. Mimi I also recommend J Gourmet as a great place for ready to eat SCD products.

By " our kids " above, do you mean autistic kids? Before my son got sick of muffins he would eat more than 3 a day but he's on the diet for an irritable bowel disorder (as likely were many of the people originally in contact with Rochel W.). > I also recommend J Gourmet as a great place for ready to eat SCD > products. Would you happen to know if they or any other well-received company are kosher certified? Thanks and take care, Fay

Guest guest
" You recommend autistic children to stay away from nuts as much as possible. I was wondering if anyone has any good recipes for coconut cookies - so that we can substitute this. " I don't think that Mimi is recommending that ASD children stay away from nuts as much as possible. I think she was reminding the list that the diet allows nuts, but that it is not a nut-based diet. Limiting muffins to 2-3 per day (or the equivalent of other nut-based baked goods) is allowing plenty of nut products. Way more than my children have ever gotten. When any one food is served to the exclusion of others, the balance of a diet is thrown off. Children need to eat vegetables and lots of them- as well, as fruits and protein. By allowing a child to consume more than the equivalent of 2-3 muffins per day fills the child to the point of pushing out vegetables and other nutritious foods. And to respond to the question about coconut as a replacement for nuts in recipes-- Coconut is very fibrous and not as easy to digest as nut butters. So, I wouldn't recommend using it as a replacement for the nut butters/nut flours. I would suggest coming up with way to increase vegetable consumption as the main component of any healthy diet.
