Guest guest
Dear Bern, What a hard decision to be faced with. I know it must have caused you quite a bit of anxiety. If nothing else this has been a learning experience for you and your family. Besides that you have made some new fluffy friends.I applaud your decision to take control of your health and it sounds like you have a wonderful plan to do so. Did you and your family drive to Durham? If so how long did it take you? I'm seriously considering driving, (actually having Randy chauffeur me). I asked my oldest daughter to go too. I still feel very confident about having the surgery. I know my limitations and this is the tool I need. I can't wait for us to get together. We don't have to wait until after our MGBs, besides at the rate I'm going with my PI form it may be next year before I go. HA!!HA!! Guest guest
Genz, We flew from Dallas-Houston-Raleigh. The flights went without a hitch. I think the drive would be hideous, especially after surgery. I think it would take about 24 hours to get there. Then, you have to turn around and drive back with 5 new button holes! That would be great to take your daughter, too. It was a major learning experience, as being on the webstie and this onelist has been also. I just wasn't ready for the most severe complication. I know the odds are slim (no pun intended), but with 2 small children and no real major health problems yet, it's just not the right time. What's the problem with the PI form? Is that the computer form that you have to fill in and send out? It took me about an hour to fill in. Gather all your data before you start and tell everyone the room and computer is off-limits until you finish. When done, print and send. Make sure to fill the form neatly and well-spoken, the Doc uses this for his letter to insurance. My letter to Prudential was approved in less than 8 hours! The better your inputs, the less he has to edit your letter, the quicker it is done. Good luck with Prudential, they were great! If you want to talk, e- mail me privately and I'll give you my phone number: beachwalkers@.... Best of luck Bern > > > > > > > Dear Pat, > > > > My prayers are with you, your son and your families. Guest guest
Dear Bernardine, You are probably right about the drive being terrible. I just hate those connecting flights out of Houston. Actually, I was intending to spend some time with my new-found cousins in NC. I always thought that my father was an only child. Well this past Christmas we received a call from a lady in NC that said she was my cousin. Come to find out, my father had an older half-brother that I never knew about. My uncle had 10 children so I have relatives all over NC.....'s Creek, Clayton, Ennice, sville & Lenior just to name a few towns. My new cousin that I've been in contact with is named Lyttle and lives in Clayton. We have the same first name, we're close to the same age and she's short and fat like me. Another win for the gene pool of obesity. Anyway, I was planning on a leisurely drive up there ( I've never been to that part of the country ) visiting with relatives, having my dance with Dr. R, and visiting with relatives some more. Heck, if I like it I may never leave. My daughter is a stay at home mom and would be able to stay as long as I do because we would take my granddaughter with us. Now as far as Randy is concerned, I guess he would eventually have to go back to work. So I suppose he would drive us up there, stay for the surgery, fly home, go to work, then fly back in time to drive us home. HUMMMM.................. I wonder if I can get him to agree to this. Probably NOT..... We will probably end up flying and renting a car. Oh well, so much for my travel plans. Actually I don't care how I get there as long as I have my MGB. I'll keep you posted. I'm going to try to send my patient info in tomorrow or Monday (been a tad chicken about all of this). I saw my PCP and he said he would do aftercare if I agreed to new bloodwork (last was in Nov.) an EKG and a treadmill test. I had told him I get short of breath when I try to do anything very physical so he wants to do all this to rule out any cardiac problems and to make sure I can survive the surgery. It's a pain, but I guess I should be grateful he's looking out for my survival. I've written my patient letter, but that's about all I've done, have to see what Ins. says before I go any farther.
