May 3, 2000

MANASQUAN, N.J., May 2 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge Corporation -

The healthcare costs for treating obese adults in the United States

have reached $238 billion this year, according to a recent study.

" Obesity takes an enormous toll, not only on the health of the

individual, but also on the economic health of the medical care

system, " said Dr. J. Rubin, president of The Lewin Group.

" Previous studies have shown - and our study confirms - obesity

increases the risk of developing such chronic and costly conditions as

heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, or stroke, " Rubin is quoted in this

week's featured article for wellness and health promotion

professionals on Wellness Junction.
