Guest guest
Hello, I am new to this group. I have been lurking around for a couple of months, just checking out what every one has to say. You have all been a wealth of information and encouragement!! I am not quite sure how to reply to you all. My email runs off lotus notes and when I try to email from the list of patients on the site it wants to set me up a new email account before I can do it. Well I can't have 2 email accounts at work so I can't do it that way. So I am going to reply to the list digest and see how that works. I am in need of patient contacts. Would any of you please consider being a contact for me? I have been researching wls for about 1 1/2 yrs. And actively persuing it for about 8 months. I had started the process with Bariatic Treatment Center in Ann Arbor Michigan. (I am from Michigan). They perform the open RNY. During my initial consultation the surgeon brought up concerns he had because I had a Lap Nisson Hiatal Hernia repair. He requested I get the go ahead from the surgeon that performed the operation because he was not familiar with the surgery. Well the surgeon said he could not recommend an open procedure for me. I was heart broken! But then the surgeon who did hernia repair said that I could have a lap bypass if I could find a surgeon to do it who was familiar with hernia repair I had. He recommened me to a DR. in NYC. But Dr. in NYC didn't accept my insurance, which is BC BS. Any way to shorten this a bit I finally found Dr. R off another wls surgery support group(the asbs site) and I emailed him and he said yes he would consider me as a patient and was familiar with my hernia repair and had other patients with the same surgery and they had done well. I am elated!!! He sound like a wonderful man. I can't wait to meet him. Any one who makes thier life work helping the obese has to be a caring and compassionate person. So i am hoping to be on the other side soon. Please feel feee to email me, i am anxious to ask questions. About surgery, places to stay in durham etc. from Michigan cmcquarter@... Guest guest
Dear Group, I have not been in contact with you for sometime - Tom broke his collar bone on Sept 11 - we were going to Boston. Due to his fall, we realized it was time to move to a single level residence and we sold our home and moved to Evergreen, Colorado to be our son and his family. Tom got an electric cart which he loved and we liked our new place very much. Tom wanted to do something special for our 40th wedding anniversary and since our first date was on Valentine's 45 years ago we decided to go to NYC Valentine weekend. We have 3 children and 2 of them along with their husband and wife were able to join us. The Plaza was having a special. It was the first time we had taken the cart on the plane. It was easy, but the cart was not working when we got to NY. I was very depressed, thinking the trip was going to be ruined, however, I was able to rent another and we were off. Our son Ben had set up an appointment with Dr. Alterman who does brain stimulation, and has done a couple of MSA patients, but Tom's response to sinemet made the operation not worth while. We used van cabs to move the cart around and only had one time where we just could not find one. We went to Ground Zero, SoHo, Central Park, The Lion King, several dinners out, we had a spectacular time. Our trip home was smooth, we flew Vanguard, and for just $100 more had business class. Tom and I read together, and then had a great conversation on our last leg. We arrived at Denver Airport around 9:30pm, got our suitcases, were heading to the car - Tom was using his walker and Tom complained of shortness of breath, then he fell, Tammy and I pulled him up, Ben put him on the cart to push him to the car, he did not look right - he looked as if he were having a seizure - he has had this 2 times before, Ben performed CPR, medics arrived 10 minutes later and used the defibrulator - but to no avail. I was expecting to have him at least 10 more years - Tom had been an integral part of my life for 45 years of my 60 years. It is wonderful that we had just completed a wonderful family experience, his communication with his children has always been outstanding so they have no regrets or need to have cleared up anything. I have been more of an observer than a participant. We received so much help and information from you all and I wish to thank you deeply - we are asking that memorials be donations to the Shy-Drager Support Group because it is such a vital service to those of us associated with this disease. " > > I find this very interesting. There are quite a few PET Scanners in the USA. The difficulty is to find sites that uses the radioactive source that does the exam your Doctor wants and have the protocol to read the exam. For example at North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital uses PET/FDG and does this type exam.. Some other sites are testing F-dopamine with PET in this area. If the Doctor has email I would like very much to discuss his Dx and Rx concepts. These PET scans are still considered experimental for PD and MSA, etc, thus check on whether your insurance will cover. Good luck. Please let me know what you elect to do. > > Al > > > > > > > > If you do not wish to belong to shydrager, you may > unsubscribe by sending a blank email to > > shydrager-unsubscribe > > > > >
