Guest guest
Dede, You might try drinking V8 juice if you like it. If not, try some of the V8 Splash blends watered down. I say watered down because they have more sugar in them than the regular V8. {{HUGS}} Claire Redhead in FL MGB 4/10/00 Dr. Rutledge (http:/clos.net) " He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. Guest guest
DeDe Take low potassium very seriously. It can be a killer. I was taking it before my surgery with a diuretic, but the prescription pills are mongo-huge. In the hospital, I was given a liquid potassium that tasted like concentrated ocean water in orange syrup. My PCP came up with a pill K-Dur that you put ½ pill in water daily and it is virtually tasteless. My BP has stabilized to the point I don't need the diuretic anymore, so don't need the potassium. I do make sure I get a banana now and then, plus Gatorade and V-8 have potassium as well. I'm sure your PCP will be all over this. Shari/No Calif ----- Origirnal Message ----- From: Dedevz@... I'll go eat a strawberry all fruit popsycle while going to drive carpool.......... DH says he'll probably put me on a prescription potassium, until I can eat more " stuff " . Thanks! Guest guest
Well I went surfing, and got a list of foods containing mod-high concentrations of potassium. Some of them were a suprise to me, and I'm sure they will be to you. And also, methods of cooking also changed values in some foods. Hope this helps. Fruit 200-350mg per serving 1 fresh/canned apricot 1/8 canteloupe 1/8 honeydew 1 sm nectarine 1 med pear/pear juice Greater than 350mg/serv bananas prunes/juice Veggies 200-350mg/serv Asparagus Avocado Beets Brussell sprouts Cooked celery Fresh 'shrooms Boiled potatoes Pumpkin Rutabagas Tomato (fresh, juice, pureed) Very High--greater than 350mg Bamboo shoots Beet greens Cooked chard baked potatoes hash browns potato chips cooked spinach sweet potatoes winter squash tomato paste So, how about a nice bowl of tomato soup???? And some mashed potatoes? Or a glass of prune/pear juice in the morning? Hope you do better. :-) Any fruit " nectar " is low in potassium no matter what kind it is. Make sure it's real juice. And not pear flavored apple juice. fg At 02:35 PM 05/05/2000 EDT, you wrote: >I just had some blood work done yesterday...and my Potassium is very >low.....I've been trying to drink OJ, which I love, but it makes me sick.
