I don't know about research, but I am able to handle the ADHD in both my kids

being on SCD. Honestly, I don't believe there are any health benefits to being

on a GF/CF diet unless you need to stay away from gluten or casein because of

allergies. What I am driving at, just staying away from gluten or casein isn't

healing in itself, it is only a strategy to take to relieve the burden of a

specific allergy and sensitivity. SCD on the other hand, is a diet that takes

stress off the digestive system so it may heal, in addition to starving out bad

microbes, which in turn helps all the metabolic processes in the body, from

detoxification to sugar metabolism.

Thebest thing to do for ADHD is to remove all sources of sugar.

To do this completely, following the SCDiet is the only thing I have found that

can manage symptoms, to any degree.

Is there any research or information about whether the SCD has any

benefit for children diagnosed with ADHD? We had my son with ADHD on

the GFCF with his brother who has autism, but didn't see any real

differences.

For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book

_Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following

There is a book by an Australian mother of 2 ADHD children,

called " Fed up with ADHD " by Sue Dengate. She has toured the world

researching foods and additives and has used the " failsafe " diet, to

help her children. The diet is described in the book and also lists

the main preservatives and additives which can have detrimental

effects on some of the population. Have a list of the main ones if

you're interested in eliminating them from your children's diet.

Best regards,

Sharon

She does wonderful work. Her site is:

www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info

and it has a bunch of information. It think SCD eliminates tons of

chemicals and additives by default...and that could contribute to lots

of success besides the gut bugs. Having a list in a book is helpful.

Thank you for the link! I have never heard of Sue Dengate, but I agree with the

SCD bit. For us sugar metabolism is a huge problem, but there are hyperactivity

problems from too many phenols, Red #40, pretty much all food colorings, MSG,

annatto, etc. which SCD addresses. I'm ordering this book immediately!
