Guest guest
My son's DAN doc has recommended a probiotic that contains bifido because his test results show that he is lacking it, yet this probiotic is not SCD legal. I currently have him on a Kirkman Lab probiotic that is SCD legal. I'm hesitant to switch him because it might cause a regression or adverse reaction. Anyone have a similiar experience? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks,

Guest guest
Hi , My experience with bifidum: When I first began the diet I used a local yoghurt that didn't have an illegals (I didn't know at that point to look at the bacterial strains which were listed seperately). I ended up in a dreadful flare up of my UC. I came close to being hospitalized again - lots of diarhhea. It took weeks to clear it out of my system. Guest guest
Same thing happened to me a few years ago. If I remember correctly, Bifido should be low because it's only needed in high numbers with infants---I'm assuming your son is not an infant. If it helps at all, I had two DAN docs at the time and one of them completely concurred that bifido is not needed in high numbers, if at all, past infancy---and this was before SCD was big, the doctor wasn't even knowledgeable about SCD just bifido and told me not to worry about or supplement it. Guest guest
Thank you all for allowing me to learn from your experiences. It doesn't seem that he will benefit from the bifido, if anything, it will have negative effects. I will stay with the Kirkman SCD probiotic. Thanks again - > My son's DAN doc has recommended a probiotic that contains bifido because > his test results show that he is lacking it, yet this probiotic is not SCD legal. > I currently have him on a Kirkman Lab probiotic that is SCD legal. Guest guest
Hi, I first gave my son probiotics with Bifido in Nov 2003 & up until Dec 04 we tried various one's. We then started Biokult Dec 04 until Jul 05 & found with all of the brands, that Josh's behaviour only worsened (which might be fine in the beginning because of die-off) however it never improved. The Dr who produces Biokult recommends in her book that the SCD should be implemented together with a multi-strain soil based bacteria like Biokult & on the BTVC site, Elaine has written an article about this Dr supporting SCD. Peolpe should not think that because she endorses SCD & is mentioned on the site, that the probiotics are the way to go. We have recently started him on the goats yogurt & although he has had die-off it is nothing like he experienced with the Biokult. My advice is that you don't touch it. Thanks > My son's DAN doc has recommended a probiotic that contains bifido because > his test results show that he is lacking it, yet this probiotic is not SCD legal. > I currently have him on a Kirkman Lab probiotic that is SCD legal.
