Guest guest
I am a little confused. We are starting the diet and tried to make our first batch of yogurt but we are not sure if we have the right yogurt to start. The book discusses using commercial yogurt, but most websites mention yogurt starters. Does anyone use commercial yogurt as a starter or do most people just use the yogurt starter packets? The yogurt that we tried to use was very runny and the book mentioned a paste??? Any help would be appreciated..

Guest guest
, Welcome to the list. To use a commercial yogurt as a starter, you have to be certain that it has the correct strains of bacteria. S. Thermophilus and L. Bulgaricus for certain. It can also have L. Acidophilus or L. Casei but not bifidus strains. I believe that Custom Probiotics does ship overseas. You could e-mail them and check on the shipping costs/procedures. http://www.customprobiotics.com Check out the goat yogurt page on pecanbread.com. There are ways to make yogurt without a yogurt maker. That might be easier for you since you've had such bad experiences with yogurt makers. http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
