You may be able to make a fritter with properly soaked legal beans which have been appropriately cooked, pureed and combined with egg and nut flour, made into a batter which is then deep fried . Page 73, edition 10 of BTVC qualifies dried white navy beans, lentils and split peas as the permitted legumes. Page 105 has instructions for cooking beans. Beans should not be used until diaharrea clears up. Carol F. SCD 5 years, celiac
Guest guest
Hi , > To all our knowledgeable and creative listmates! > Is urid dal (form of lentil?) legal? I would like to make some > pappadum and was told this was ok to use. Urid/Urad dal is not legal. See http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/india_scd_2 ..htm > > Next, anyone know how to make pappadum? Everyone buys them these > days and fries them at home so I haven't had much luck finding a > recipe for making them from scratch. Recipes for papadum are pretty much lentil flour (SCD illegal) and water (maybe some salt and spices (cumin...)) What may work is to take properly prepared (SCD legal) lentils drain them and then add an egg - similar to Marilyn's fab Tortilla recipe on http://pecanbread.com/recipes.html Actually, since I don't do so hot with lentils (which kills me because I love them) I use the tortilla recipe thinned with extra water and a little extra cumin and sometimes coriander as a substitute for papadums when I make indian recipes - Which I love I find that thinning the recipes makes a crisper tortilla - almost like a tortilla chip. The recipe as written makes a fuller tortilla. > If it works out, this could be a great potato chip replacer since it > is so crispy. > > Just wanted to share that my child has been on SCD for over a year > and was able to get rid of yeast and bacteria without medication. > It took nearly a year to do and it was truly worth the effort.
