I hate confrontation, so I worry about trying to talk my doctor into it if he isn't for it. >> Sara, I have to tell you the day I had to meet with my PCP I was terrified I had huge butterflys in my belly and I was prepared for the worst (since I am only 75lbs overweight and am going for the mini-gastroplasty). My sister who is also trying to have surgery, said to me - YOU GO IN THERE AND YOU TELL HIM YOU ARE HAVING THIS SURGERY (with or without him) AND YOU WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HIM ON BOARD TO Work in tandemn with Dr. R. and if he isn't going for it,. Kick him out of the way - he is nothing more than an obstacle in your way. You are HIS/HER BOSS you hire him!! He works for you. It was big talk and easy for her to say - but it got me pumped up enough that I didnt leave (I had to wait in the waiting room for 45 minutes) Thankfully, he was very supportive. Which goes to show you will never know how he feels unless you ask - the worse they can say is no - and they CANNOT say yes unless you ask. Don't wait too long because if he says no you need to find someone else who will say yes . I had sent my manuel as well as my package to my PCP about a week in advance and he was very impressed at all the research I had done I think that really helped him make his decision. Good Luck!!! My thought was when they put signs on the babies in the nursery that said " My Mom had natural childbirth, I would consider it " but.. since they didn't I wanted an epidural before I left home! I expected much more pain after the MGB (and I know some people DO have more than I did) but I felt very much in control of the pain. I did get the pump which was wonderful and I USED it, but I never did feel like I was getting even close to losing it, I just believe in avoiding the pain rather than waiting until you are hurting to stop it. You will do fine. From one wus to another! Safe journey, MGB 03 MAY 00 Safely on the other side!!!!
