Hi,

One person has died from complications with the surgery. from

Iceland. She had complications related to a leak, as I understand. I don't

know about GI problems, but there should be something about that on the web

site. I think three people have had the surgery reversed because of too much

weight loss or bad nausea. The statistics on some of this are on the MGB web

page in Dr. R's presentation for the ASBS meeting. You can find that on the

main page under the fifth bullet down - " Have a Look at the MGB Presentation .

.. . " That might be a good presentation for your PCP to look at.

Hope this helps some. Good luck with your PCP.

Everyone - Just wanted to let you know that I had my annual physical today

and was nervous about talking to my PCP. She is very thin and I thought she

might freak out. I gave her the manual and assorted email messages and stuff

from the web site which we discussed at length. She seemed apprehensive about

it but said she would certainly support me. Which is a great relief! She

agreed with me that this surgery seems like the right answer for me because

at age 51, having been overweight all but 5 or 6 of those years, diets have

clearly NOT worked.

So...I am about to start on my contacts. It feels very strange to finally

have this process begins. Strange but good.

I do not post here much but I want all of you to know that I find this list a

wonderful place to go to feel good about myself and the choices we are all

making. If it were not for this list and all the great people on it, I would

not be contemplating such an important step.
