Guest guest
If SCD is suppose to help the body why is Body Ecology Diet stating that meat, chicken, eggs and nuts make the body more acidic which could cause gut bugs and other problems. A little confused, please help explain. Thank you. Jeanne The Body Ecology Diet uses the Acid/Alkaline Principle (listed below) as one of it's 8 principles. For information on the other principles see links listed below. From the Body Ecology Diet: 2. The Acid/Alkaline Principle: This is a commonly understood principle in alternative medicine/nutrition. The ideal situation is where the blood is kept slightly on the alkaline side of the normal range (7.4). This is thought to discourage the growth of yeast, viruses, gut bugs, parasites and also discourage the growth and spread of cancer. Acidity also leads to conditions such as chronic fatigue, allergies, and arthirtis. It is suggested that every meal contain 20% acid-forming foods and 80% alkaline-forming foods. Foods recommended on Body Ecology Diet: Acid-forming foods (20% of meal): - animal foods (beef, poultry, eggs, fish, etc.) - buckwheat -organiz, unrefined oil -stevia (sweetening herb) Akaline-forming foods (80% of meal): - land vegetables (most) - ocean vegetables -millet, quinoa, amaranth - sea salt - herbs and herb tea - seeds 9except sesame) - mineral water (plain or sparkling) - lemons, limes, unsweetened cranberries, and black currants - cultured foods (raw organic apple cider vinegar, raw cultured vegetables, kefir) - soaked and sprouted almonds Neutrals (not acidic or alkaline): - butter (raw) - ghee Foods NOT recommended on Body Ecology Diet: Acidic forming foods: - sugar, candy, soft drinks - flour products - beans, soybean products, and tofu - nuts and nut butter - wine, beer, alcohol - saccharin, nutrasweet, equal - commercial refined vinegar Alkaline-forming foods: - fruits (except lemons, limes, unweetened cranberries, black currants) For more info check out: 1) http://www.autismndi.com/news/display.asp?content=News&shownews=20040721140600 2) www.bodyecology.com --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Elaine said it can have the same effect on the digestive sytem as unripe green apples; several people who left here to pursue that diet had some serious consequences for their children. There are lists that discuss other diets as well as BED . These diets contradict the basics of SCD. Since the science of SCD is very effective and SCD has been found to improve or heal cases of autism, we have dedicated ourselves to its support in this group. ( Our FAQs qualify that we do not deal with other diets on the Pecanbread List.) Carol F. SCD 5 years, celiac

Guest guest
Gut bugs need a food source. Most (c.diff is exception) consume sugar as their food source. You remove the food source and they die. Acid or alkaline is irrelevant for the most part. I know an alkaline environment is better for overall health but will not by itself kill gut bugs. You have to get rid of the food source or somehow kill them all at once, which is almost impossible if you continually feed them (you just create resistant strains that way). If I were to keep my son's diet alkaline on SCD his gut would be a mess - even legal carbs he does not tolerate well and I have to be very careful to not give him too much or he gets yeasty and flares. I'm trying mineral water instead to help make him more alkaline, but I'm not going to fret over it. He's very healthy - he managed to make it through winter with only one cold so his immune system is 10x better than last winter, where he had flu, rotavirus, several bouts of croup, a couple other intestinal bugs, etc. Like night and day. I know as his gut heals he'll tolerate more fruits, seeds and such and I can back off the proteins more. Robbie Can someone please explain this?
