Please forgive me for not clarify properly below - I was talking

about vaginal yeast infections...

snip...

> The question first if I may...anyone having a major problem with

yeast infections (sorry guys!)? I've heard getting them may be a

side effect of a large pannus. I've had about 6 yeast infections so

far this year. I read something the other day about women having 2-3

infections per year being considered very high, and here I am with

twice that.

To those of you who say you had to go slow on honey and fruit because of your

child getting yeast:

How are you determining your child has yeast? Some kind of bloodwork or test?

Or are you going by symptoms? If a test---which one? If symptoms--what

symptoms?

Hi Marilyn

We did a Comprehensive Stool test from Great Plains.

mucus/slimy/smelly/Cottage cheese pooh, Alternating BMs, giggling for

no apparent reason, stimmy such as hand flapping (my son has autism)

hyper and nightwaking, manic behaviour, pimply bum, rashes, itchy ears,

sensitive ears.

Glad to add since SCD and Nystatin much of the above is gone - just

have to him going regular.

Aileen,

Thanks for the reply. We will be seeing a DAN doctor who is moving here to

Austin, TX in a month so maybe he'll order such a test. I remember in the

past when Kim had a yeast infection that she was given Nystatin and didn't

do well with it. Anything besides SCD that can be used to help? I suppose

the yogurt would help. Buying the Yougurmet is next on my list so we can

give it a try. In the past, Kim hasn't handled yogurt very well, but I

suppose if we just start with a teaspoon and work up. In the past, so many

things increased Kim's seizures that it has been hard to treat her with

supplements of any kind except digestive enzymes and flax seed.. I'm

finding Kim tolerating more foods at least with SCD. Still most medicines

and vitamins increase her seizures.

The reason I ask about yeast is that my daughter has had a constant rash on her

face for almost 2 years. It look almost like acne or rosacea, but nothing from

the dermatologist helped. We have also tried essential oils, aloe vera,

calendula cream, hydrogen peroxide, etc. to no avail. The funny thing is when

Kim was recently in the hospital not eating much of anything, just on iv and

eating fruit juice jello, broth, and sugar free applesauce, her face began to

look much better. Makes me wonder if this is due to something she is eating.

We've had allergy testing before, and avoid things she tested allergic to

already. I thought it was due to something in her seizure drug, but now we are

on a different oral seizure drug and still have the problem.

Hi Marilyn

It is difficult. I don't like to give advice 'cause I am wearing L

plates LOL!

Everyone is great here and no doubt some one will come back to you on

experience with seizures.

I am not convinced a test is totally necessary Marilyn, I could

hardly understand the result but because candida was mentioned in the

small print that satisfied any doubt/denial? but heah! who was I

fooling? All the signs that I give you were there.

One thing that has really helped Cian is omitting sugar - all sugar

and all kinds, all alternatives etc He dosn't bother much with fruit

so that wasn't a problem. A tiny amount of fruit now doesn't bring

back sleeplessness or stims. So that is one thing I would strongly

suggest any parent to take away - all sorts of sugar and the attitude

that we all need a sweet treat - it really is nasty stuff.

When I was asking other folk here about using Nystatin quite a few

told me they used Nystatin but not with SCD i.e they were still using

carbs, sugar etc. I don't know but Cian seems to be doing well so

far. We do not see majour die-off in behaviours, just a pimply bum

and the odd rash, so I think it is doing its thing, along with SCD,

So far I am happy with it.

Also the Nystatin is pure powder, not mixed in anything etc. This is

important as the regular is full of sugar!

I have introduced yoghurt and Cian has had good BMs since so I am

happy with it. He also likes it so thats a bonus. I did start very

slow (I'm a scardy custard!)

One last thing. I don't know much about this but there is a diet to

help seizures, is it the Kenogenic diet or somthing? maybe someone

here will know. Like I say I know little about it but maybe you could

have a google?

I think you are wonderful - hope I'm still fighting and trying to

improve Cian's quality of life when he is 20.

Hi marilyn,

We have just gotten over a facial rash that went on for 6 months or more. It

was a red bumpy rash around his chin area. I can't say for sure that it was

yeast related, BUT that's what I suspect. I tried candex, nystatin , topical

creams and finally, I gave up. But we re- introduced goat yogurt (for many

reasons) and it is all but gone!!!! it took a bit to clear, but as I upped

the amount of yogurt it gradually disappeared. We are currently on about 1/8

of a cup/day.

I hope this helps.

P.S my son ( 4 yrs) also has epelepsy and autism

Hi Marilyn,

> Anything besides SCD that can be used to help?

There is a file on Yeast and SCD at

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/

I have been battling yeast for a while now and in additiopn to what

is conatained in the file I added a yeast enzyme (Candizyme - they

are many similar enzymes) a couple of months ago. Things are much

better now and my bowels are just about 100%.

You may even want to start smaller with the yogurt (1/4- 1/2 tsp).

You could also consider dripping the yogurt some finds this helps.

" Healing With Whole Foods " by Pitchford:

" Chronic tiredness, mental sluggishness, chronic vaginitis or

prostatitis, anal itching, bloating & other digestive problems, bad

breath, extreme sensitivity to tobacco smoke & chemical fumes, mucus

in the stools, frequent colds, cravings for sweets & yeasted breads,

recurrent fungal infections such as athlete's foot, and low immunity

in general. Those with systemic candidiasis may suffer from the

above and also often exhibit a scattered and unfocused mind, memory

loss, and in severe cases, mental derangement such as

manic/depression & delusions; also common are allergies to many

foods and environmental substances. "

I can attest to the extreme influence it has on the mind, such as

apathy, confusion, inablity to focus even on simple tasks, memory

loss, etc. You not only are too tired to I have seen many friends,

family members all have a tougher time thinking or " brain farts "

after eating deserts. So many people have admitted to having a

tougher time concentrating at complex tasks after eating then before

eating, it's almost considered normal which is depressing to hear.
