Guest guest
Hi there, I don't know much about x-rays, but thought I would share a little story I know about having to do with x-rays and constipation. A girlfriend of mine, he DAN Dr. suggested she do an x-ray on her 3 year old son to check for impacted stool. The DR. had asked if she ever saw him pushing on his stomache or leaning over something to put pressure on it, which she did occasionally see him do. However, her son had a bm everyday, sometimes loose, sometimes formed. She went ahead with the x-ray and found out he was impacted with stool. She couldn't understand why, if he was having regualar BM's. It goes around the imapacted stool is what she was told. I don't know if this helps or not, but thought I would share since they were able to tell from an x-ray that he was impacted. Darci > Sorry about the multiple posts, but I'd like everyone's opinion. Guest guest
Hi a, My 3-1/2-year-old son, Joe had an abdominal x-ray in June/July of this year. The X-ray was to show if there was an impaction or obstruction of some sort. Joe is the kind of boy who's always passed a huge stool every few days (nothing much aside from smears every 3 days or so, then a marathon trip with huge solid stools perhaps a day or two in a row... then repeat). The X-ray showed marked to moderate build up in his colon (full of stool) and he was put on a laxative which within a week, he expunged quite a bit. Granted, he still is on the once every 3 days routine again now (still on laxative) but the problem with being full of stool is the bacterial buildup, physical discomfort, and overall funk the intestines are in with such a buildup (compaction, impaction, obstruction, etc). We are converting gradually to 100% SCD and hoping for good results to help this digestion process... I found the x-ray quite useful since I wanted to know if Joe was " full, " impacted, obstructed, malformed, etc. or even if he was healthy and just a " once every few days " kind of guy. Good luck , Carol > Sorry about the multiple posts, but I'd like everyone's opinion. My 20 year > old son has been constipated (small pellet dry poops, hard to get out, once > a day) for many years. Guest guest
Darci, I assume that my son is impacted, since he's been constipated for years. I'm not sure and xray would reveal anything new. The question is, after your friend found her child was impacted, what protocol did she use to eliminate the impaction? I'll try that rather than the xray! Can you find out? Thanks! a H. > > Sorry about the multiple posts, but I'd like everyone's opinion. > My 20 year > > old son has been constipated (small pellet dry poops, hard to get > out, once > > a day) for many years. Guest guest
we used the liquid paraffin first time round to empty the bowel, we used 4 tsp twice a day until we could see the orange grease coming out with the stool we kept it up at that dose until all he passed was clear grease - if its got a bit of orange grease dont worry - thats okay too, it is smelly, its horrible they have a lot of cramps etc while they are ridding themselves of it all, then you drop the dose right back to 2 tsps twice a day and then alternate the doses basiaclly you keep giving it until you see orange grease again then you drop back for example, i thought kai was a little constipated the other night he hadnt passed a stool for 2 days so i gave 1 tsp at night then 2 tsp following morning, then 2 tsp that night then 2 tsp following morning, 2 hours later he passed a greasy orange stool so that night i didnt give any at all, the following morning i then gave him 2 tsps, he passed a normal stool no orangy grease, none in the evening, will give him 2 tsps this morning, if he hasnt gone all day, then ill give him some more tonight, its very trial and error you then basically keep this up until you no longer need it and they can pass the stool daily without any help there are other methods people use some use vitamin c - someone said 500 g every hour until they have a loose bm, then you drop it back by 500g eachtime until you find a level where they pass a softened stool daily others use magnesium following the same principle personally i combine all 3 liquid paraffin to keep the stool soft, magnesium 300 g twice a day, vitamin c 1g twice a day and this has helped to keep him moving hth emma phashmall PHashmall@...> wrote: So Emma, If I assume he's impacted, what can I do about it? a H. > > Sorry about the multiple posts, but I'd like everyone's opinion. > My 20 year > > old son has been constipated (small pellet dry poops, hard to get > out, once > > a day) for many years. Guest guest
I hate to sound like a broken record, but what I get from your experience is that the xray told you something you already knew, and the problem was not fixed as a result of treatment indicated by the xray, right? > > Sorry about the multiple posts, but I'd like everyone's opinion. > My 20 year > > old son has been constipated (small pellet dry poops, hard to get > out, once > > a day) for many years. Guest guest
Thanks, Emma. I'll look for the liquid paraffin. We tried very high doses of vitamin C and also raised his magnesium a lot, but neither helped. I believe he was up to about 11g Vitamin C, and about 1000mg magnesium. a H. > > > Sorry about the multiple posts, but I'd like everyone's opinion. > > My 20 year > > > old son has been constipated (small pellet dry poops, hard to get > > out, once > > > a day) for many years.
