I had saline implants for 5 years, but feel that I had a serious reaction to the silicone shell. Experienced progressive autoimmune symptoms before being suspected as MS in 2008 - right before having the implants removed by Dr. Kolb in October of 2008. I had a lump under my left ear by the jaw line exactly where you are describing for 1-1/2 yrs. before explantation. It was very tender when it first appeared and the pain radiated up my neck, even into my ear. Went to the ENT and was told I had something called "Carotidenia" and that it would go away and to come back if it didn't or got larger. Went back a few months later because it had turned into a small knot and still hurt. Too small to show on a CT scan, so was told, again, not to worry.

Went back again due to progression of some other symptoms and bothered that it was still there. Told maybe it was a lymph node, but would do a doppler of my carotid artery to make sure there was not a problem - again nothing. The knot finally went away about 8 weeks after explantation surgery. PS - most of the MS symtoms and Sjogren's disease (autoimmune) symptoms are also gone.

Hope that helps.

Ilena,

Is it possible to canvass the list confidentially to find out if anyone with ruptured migrating silicone has experienced a mass in their parotid gland (it is one of the salivary glands under the ear, on the neck, sometimes confused with lympth node swelling)...

thank you,

Long Term Sister
