Guest guest
Muffy, From my understanding after WLS you are not supposed to drink any carbonated beverages. IM not sure with the MGB but it can do some real damage. Good Luck Trisha Lanman praying Dr. R. will help me to the other side soon!!! Guest guest
Hi Muffy, I had my MGB 3/20 so I am one week further than you. It seems to me that since I stopped both the Carafate and Prilosec my stomach is a little more touchy. I actually didn't relate those two until just yesterday. So now I have slowed down a little on eating and back to the more bland stuff like the first couple of weeks just to see if that helps. One thing I noticed is that you said you sometimes have carbonated soda and that helps. Soda, according to Dr R is a definate no no as the carbonation is bad and can cause ulcers, so take it easy on the soda. I'll be interested in hearing what Dr R has to to say to you. Hang in there...... I'm sure it gets better. It's all trial and error right now. Jane Kunert MGB 3/20/00 250 /
Guest guest
Are carbonated beverages off limits forever or just temporarily?
Guest guest
Happy girl, I went to a seminar for WLS (not the MGB) and they showed what happens when you drink soda. It exspands your stomuch and can cause ulcers. I personally do not want to take the chance of stretching my pouch. Just food for thought. Guest guest
Call Dr. Rutledge. He will probably put you on something for the nausea (maybe the Prilosec again). I've heard from 90 people so far who had the surgery. Out of those, a handful of people had nausea like you are describing, and all but 1 (who had some other problems) said it lasted about a month or so. So maybe it's about to be over with! Regarding the tiredness, are you taking protein supplements (and vitamins)? Protein is important to keep your energy level up. As for the cokes, here's what Dr. Rutledge's patient manual says about cokes: " Coffee, tea, sodas are not good choices because of their low potassium and vitamin content. " [Page 24 and again on pg. 32.] Someone else mentioned seeing a video about how carbonated drinks will stretch out your stomach, so that sounds like a pretty good reason not to drink them, too, to me. ================================================================= The only warning against something causing an ulcer is on page 29: " Motrin like Aspirin and Tylenol, Naproxen, and many other types of pain medicines has the side effect of damaging the lining of the gut and can lead to ulcer formation in your new stomach. " [Page 29] ================================================================= There is a warning against alcohol irritating the stomach and nicotine slowing down ulcer healing on page 30: " but it is best to avoid alcohol because of its irritant effect on the stomach. Nicotine can delay ulcer healing and reduce effectiveness of this drug. " (referring to Carafate) [Page 30] Kind regards, email: lindat@... webpage: http://www.fourlane.com/lindat ********* Call L.A.
