Guest guest
Hi everyone-- I just started my 5-year-old daughter (ASD) on the diet this week. She has always had a bloated look to her, and she's on the chunky side as well. I read BTVC and realized that her entire diet, while casein-free, was carb-based (and not the good carbs, either), thus explaining the persistent yeast problems. By the time we started SCD this week, she had limited her diet to french toast, certain cookies, and potato chips. I thought if I could at least replace those with SCD alternatives, she would already be eating healthier. And then I could broaden the diet from there. I've baked two kinds of bread and made french toast with them, but she will not touch it. I've tried two kinds of cookies and she literally throws them. I've made two kinds of pancakes, one of which she ate on the very first day but now she won't eat either of them and gets very angry at the sight of them. So we are now in day three of eating absolutely nothing. She is drinking super-diluted grape juice and has at least gotten her supplements, but she won't eat. We saw our DAN doc yesterday, and he said that she will come around, that she will eat when she is hungry enough. I'm starting to think that's not true. She hasn't had a BM in two days, which is of concern because she is chelating with DMPS, which removes metals via the stool. The good news is that she looks great. Her tummy, which was always bloated and distended looking--not fat but unusually puffy--is not that way anymore. Aside from tantrums in front of the now-empty snack cabinet, her mood is good. She's sleeping well. Just not eating. Has anybody else been through this? How much longer can she go without eating? I don't want to give in and go back to the unhealthy food because I'm certain that this diet is right for her. Please help. I and my dh are getting worried-- TIA, H.
